Tdap Documentation Required for 7th graders Prior to Attending School
SMS has communicated to 7th grade families during the 2024 Spring Semester and this summer about the state required Tdap vaccination documentation needed to attend school in 7th grade. The majority of our families have satisfied this requirement but serves as a reminder to any remaining families that the document must be received by SMS Main Office or Nurse Tate prior to coming to school on Thursday, August 1. If a student has not had their Tdap vaccination prior to Thursday they should not report to school until they do.
School Starts on Thursday, August 1
Our bell schedule will feature:
- 60 minute academic classes (English, Math, Science and Social Studies) in their own hallway
- staggered class changes so 6th grade students have their own schedule
- 6th grade students change classes with 6th grade only
- two exploratory periods of 43 minutes each
- a lunch/recess period
- 30 minute flex time period of additional support or acceleration to enhance student learning outcomes. These student supports were provided in your elementary school and will continue into middle school.

Car Line Arrival and Dismissal
Covered Waiting Area
Dual Entrance from Wells Hwy
Car Line around Football Field
- Allow extra time during the first few weeks of school as all students and families learn new routines and procedures. Safety will be the highest priority during these times and we ask for your cooperation and patience.
- SMS is open to receive students at 7:45 am. Students should not be dropped off before that time as families are responsible for the supervision of their child before 7:45 am. After that 7:45 time, SMS staff will begin the supervision of students to maintain safety.
- Stay in your lane as you enter the car line as we will use both lanes of the car line as it operates with dual lines for the majority of the car line loop until you approach the unloading area where it will merge into one lane. Please alternate cars as you merge, one from each lane.
- Once you enter the car line, please talk to your child about gathering their items and being ready to depart your car when you reach the unloading zone. When your car comes to a stop at the sheltered car line student area, students will get out of their cars as a group. Staff will be there to assist.
- After dropping off your child, the car line will return to two lanes and you should get into the proper lane: if you are making a left exit onto Wells Highway get in left lane and if you are making a right turn onto Wells Highway get in the right lane.
- For dismissal, students will be in our sheltered student loading area by grade level and should be paying attention and looking for your car to arrive.
- Be sure your car tag that you received at summer registration is displayed from your car mirror or dashboard for easy viewing. If you need further assistance with car tags, please contact our main office.
- All students should be picked up by their families by 4:00 pm and we start dismissal at 3:30 pm.
- Safety is always our highest priority and we will be as efficient as possible while maintaining safety in all areas related to transportation. Please use caution when driving around our school.
Attendance Matters
In middle school, attendance it taken each period compared to daily attendance that occurs in middle school. It is important for students to be at school the entire day. Sign-outs should be limited but please be aware that with our student dismissal at 3:30 pm that no early sign-outs will be allowed after 3 pm daily. This will allow our school to focus appropriately and manage our after school dismissal procedures.
