CHMS Weekly Update
November 18th - 22nd, 2024
Second Step
What are we learning this week?
5th Grade - Unit 3: Empathy and Kindness
Lesson 13: A Different Point of View - In this lesson, your child will practice building empathy for different groups affected by a community problem. Learning more about each group’s point of view will help them find solutions that can work better for everyone.
Try this at home: With your child, think about a problem in your community and make a list together of what you could do to learn more about someone else’s point of view. If possible, try out one of your strategies.
6th Grade - Unit 2: Developing a Positive Sense of Self
Lesson 13: Using Your Guiding Principles - In this week’s lesson, your child will complete a story in which they use their guiding principles to make a decision and resolve a challenging situation.
Try this at home: Ask your child to describe their story and discuss the decision they made. Ask how they plan to include guiding principles in future decision-making.
7th Grade - Unit 2: Developing a Positive Sense of Self
Lesson 13: Who Will You Become? - In this week’s lesson, your child will describe what they can do now to connect their self-concept to who they want to be in the future.
Try this at home: Ask your child what they can start doing now to become the person they want to be in the future. Ask them why it’s important to see things in themselves that they feel good about.
8th Grade - Unit 2: Developing a Positive Sense of Self
Lesson 13: Your Confidence-Building Plan - In this week’s lesson, your child will create a plan for building confidence in an area of their choice.
Try this at home: Tell your child about a time when you successfully increased your own confidence. Ask them to describe their plan for building confidence. Ask how you can help them with their plan.
