Fleming Focus
January 14, 2025
Greetings Fleming Families,
Happy New Year!
Welcome back to the spring semester of the 24-25 school year. The AFE team is thrilled to start a new semester with our STAR scholars.
The start of school, after a significant break, always provides a good opportunity to re-establish a focus on learning. Your STAR scholars in grades 2nd-5th, met with Dr. Lewis, our amazing assistant principal, to review our STAR Guidelines for Success on Friday. This provided students with a reminder of campus expectations to ensure a safe and productive learning environment.
January brings a fresh start for each of us, and is always a time we set goals and priorities for the year. We are no different here at AFE. We are now into the stretch before state assessments (TELPAS, STAAR) begin and it is during this time that we see our scholars focused and intentional.
As we review their MAP and other district data, we will work with our students to set goals and maximize their growth. One thing for sure, we know how to do hard things at AFE and we know we can achieve our goals.
Please be sure to view flyers and the calendar below for upcoming events.
As our AFE teachers continue to uphold our mission of providing a high quality education to our STAR students, we ask that you partner with us by doing the following:
- Reading at least 20 minutes each night with your STAR scholar;
- Maintain communication with your STAR scholar's teacher;
- Ensure your STAR student attends school each day.
A reminder that regular attendance and on time arrival is vital to students' success. When students miss instructional minutes, they miss essential learning experiences that set them up for academic success. Please do not hesitate to reach out to the campus administration if you have any questions regarding attendance policies.
As we continue to keep safety at the forefront of everything that we do, here are a few important dismissal reminders:
The car rider line will run along Rocky Valley so that we do not block Bissonnet. We encourage you to enter along Charlmont or Tramore Drive. All cars along Rocky Valley should be car riders only. Due to safety for our STARs and their families, only walkers will be allowed to dismiss from this area.
All AFE students received dismissal tags for their backpacks. Please ensure that your student keeps the tag on their backpack so that we are able to confirm their dismissal daily. We also ask that all families show their physical walker or car tag for pick up. Pictures will not be accepted.
All FBISD families received an email regarding the ID badge and ridership. Please be sure that if your student is a bus rider, they return the badges each day. Students must utilize badges for lunch and to board FBISD buses. If a student misplaces or damages their badge, guardians must pay a replacement fee of $5.
Reminder: The instructional school day begins at 8:05 am and concludes at 3:25 pm. We ask that families are on time to pick up their students so that our STAR staff may leave on time to spend quality time with their families.
We have several ways to stay informed of events at AFE. Please visit our website at https://www.fortbendisd.com/AFE where we will begin posting our weekly Tuesday newsletters and calendar of events. We will continue to share the campus newsletter each Tuesday via Blackboard to the primary email address in your student's Skyward profile. Also, follow us on Twitter @AFE_STARS and Facebook @AFE_STARS for updates and quick announcements.
