Dear parents and carers.
What a wonderful start to the school year!
I’d like to say a big “Thank you” to the Kirk Fenton school community for making me feel so
welcome. Your smiles and warm wishes have really made a difference to my first week as head
teacher.
I’d also like to publicly extend my thanks to the staff who have worked tirelessly to ensure that the
children have had a calm start to the year. There is already a nurturing, learning environment re-
established across school and this is down to them.
Our new Reception starters have settled really well, they are a lovely bunch! Having everything
named really helps ensure it gets returned if lost so if you haven’t already, please do so over the
weekend. We are also looking for some new committee members for Friends of Kirk Fenton as the current ones are standing down. Please see the Friends section further down in the newsletter and contact them on friends@kf.starmat.uk.
Attendance has been lower than I would expect for the first week back at school, mainly due to
unauthorised holiday. This first week is vital in terms of settling in and establishing new routines so it is very important that children are in. On the flip side, it can be incredibly frustrating to keep your
child off for 48 hours following an upset stomach when as a parent you feel they are well enough to
be here. Please remember that our staff are simply following Local Authority policy and it is their job to implement this.
You’ll notice there are dates in the diary for the open classrooms and parent’s evenings. I hope this
gives you enough notice to arrange other work/home commitments so we can see you all there. We
are working on lots of other exciting opportunities for the children – it’s going to be a great year!
Have a lovely weekend,
Mel Walmsley
Headteacher

New committee needed
After three successful years, and raising over £15,000 for school, the current Friends of Kirk Fenton committee feel it's time for a change and are stepping down from their positions. So, for Friends to continue providing support to the school a new committee of volunteers is needed, and it would be great to have parents from different years across the school represented. Please can anyone interested in joining the committee please email us or contact via Facebook
The current committee will help with a full handover. A new committee can decide how much or little time you have to devote to this but anything however small will make a big difference to school life.
Why join Friends of Kirk Fenton
With the money raised over the last few years, we have funded Christmas trip transport annually, provided treats for the children and 30 new Chromebooks as well as new playground supplies which are currently underway, so Friends really does form an integral part of the school community. We really hope that some of you would like to continue to help with this.
