Principal's Note
Greetings, LCE Parents!
We have finished another great week! Instruction is rocking-n-rolling in every classroom. Teachers and students have settled into a routine and students are doing a great job everywhere on campus! I am super proud of the progress of our students.
In the coming weeks we will begin 1st of the year assessments in order to determine students' needs. Teachers will use the data gathered to determine instructional targets tailored to individual students. As previously mentioned, our focus is providing the best instruction for all our students and ensuring that every student grows every year.
Next week parent lunch visitors are welcome to come and eat with students during designated lunch times, Monday through Thursday only, with the exception of Friday’s. Tables will be available outside the cafeteria in the foyer for families to sit together. We look forward to seeing parents on campus!
Grandparents Day breakfast is right around the corner. Please be on the lookout for invitations with all the information about the special celebration. If you have any questions feel free to reachout to the front office for more information.
As the year begins I would like to share a thought with all our parents. A student's academic success can only be achieved through consistent attendance in class. When students miss out on instruction it places them at a disadvantage than their peers who are present for class everyday. Students who miss out on content covered due to long periods of absences, because of planned family vacations or parent work trips, have a harder time getting caught up. Grade level concepts build upon each other much like layering bricks. Teachers do what they can to carve out time to re-teach material to students who are frequently absent. However, it does take more time and effort both by the teacher and the student to master the material missed. Assignments cannot be sent home for the student to work on while they are out because there is no way for the teacher to ensure that the student mastered the content. I share this with all of our parents to simply ask that you consider rescheduling special trips or other events that will take students out of school and plan them during student holidays. Please also keep in mind that the students absences will be unexcused as well. If you have special circumstances you are encouraged to schedule a meeting with me to discuss your plans. Your consideration is greatly appreciated.
As you begin to prepare for the coming week here are a few things to keep in mind:
Deliveries Except in emergencies, delivery of messages or packages to students will not be allowed during instructional time. A parent may leave a message or a package, such as a forgotten lunch, for the student to pick up from the front office during a passing period or lunch. PG.44
Parents have 3 days, from the date the student returns to class, to send in a handwritten note for an absence in order for it to be excused.
Parents are required to have a car tag displayed at parent pick up when pulling into the car line. If a parent does not have a car tag they will be directed to the front office where they will have to show a valid ID and be an authorized person in Skyward in order to pick up a student.
Parents are not permitted on campus without being approved through our Rapport system and receiving a visitor’s badge.
I do hope that the information I have provided helps clarify any questions that you may have. However, if you need clarification of policies and procedures please feel free to reachout at any time.

Counselor's Corner
Internet Safety - 3rd-5th Grades
We are excited to collaborate with Ms. Piper on day sevens throughout the year in teaching Internet safety to grades 3rd-5th. We will be using NetSmartz’s Season 1 series “Into the Cloud.” Students will watch a very short part of the video each time they go to Keyboarding and a short discussion will follow. School Supplies Donation Request
We do not have the following school supplies and would appreciate any help with donations! Stores will soon be discounting items, so please pick up a few to donate if you can and deliver them to the front office or send them with your child with a note. Items are given to students and teachers to use in the classroom throughout the year. Your help is greatly appreciated!
Items in need: composition books, plastic school supply box
Items in low supply: wide ruled notebook paper, plastic folders with brads, kleenex
Community First Food Pantry
LCE is hosting a community Food Pantry. It is located in the front of the school and is accessible 24/7. Inventory is checked weekly to ensure there are items available.
It is accessible to families in need. If you are in great need, please contact the counseling department and we can provide additional resources.
Military Families
We know the challenges and sacrifices that come with moving to a new location, so we are excited to continue a mentoring program partnering with the MVHS JROTC cadets. The MVHS mentors will be paired up with referred LCE students with the goal being to establish rapport, build connections, and help by being a positive role model to the student. Many of the mentors have had similar experiences since they have parents in the military too. This program is for active duty military families only with children that may be struggling with the transition. Please reach out to Mrs. Rakowitz to learn more and if this program would be a good fit for your child.

Anchored4Life
Our Anchored4Life program will kick off in October, but we have student leaders from last year who are ready to support at any time! If you are a military family that has a parent deployed, soon to deploy or soon to return, reach out to our campus Military Liaison. We have free support kits that are given to students!

Our Watch D.O.G.S (Dads of Great Students) and M.O.M.S (Moms of Marvelous Students) allow positive adult role models to take part in the school day. They are extra eyes and ears on campus and have the opportunity to be a part of their child’s (or grandchild/niece/nephew) education.
Coach's Corner
If you can make sure your child or children have the proper shoes when they come to PE. If your child or children are sick and cannot participate in PE please provide a note with your child or children when they come to PE. We will always work with you on this matter but communication is key. Our after School Softball season is about to start. Mrs. Morrow will also help with the After School Sports Program this year.
Permission forms have to be signed by the Legal Guardian and student to participate and must be returned and turned into the PE Department to participate. The Program will follow UIL Rules and my way of running the After School Sports Program. If your child or children participate they will need to be picked up no later than 4:30PM. A bus will not be provided for this Sports Program so please keep that in mind. If they are picked up 3 times after 4:30PM within the Sport season they will not be able to participate any longer for the remainder of the current Sport Season. The next Sport Season they will be able to participate but if they are picked up late 2 times within the Sport Season they will not be able to participate any longer in the After School Sports program for the remainder of the year.
If your child and or children are not passing they cannot sign up for the designated Sport Season. While participating in the after school sports program if their grades go below failing, they will not be able to participate any longer until they bring their grades up to passing.
Also if a student gets a referral, they are not allowed to participate in the sports program for the designated sport season. If the student does not get another referral then they can participate in the next designated sport season. If a student gets a referral while in the Sports Program they will not be able to continue with the current sport season and will not be allowed to participate in the next designated sport season.
