Concert Communications
Dear Jefferson and Fox River Academy Families,
As a music department Ms. Sperberg (general music teacher), Mrs.
Walters (strings teacher), and Mrs. Pynenberg (band teacher), are excited
to share with you the musical performances that we will be having this year
at school!
Please note the description of the concert to see if this performance
pertains to your child or if it is for a different grade level or ensemble. Feel
free to reach out for any questions or additional information.
From Ms. Sperberg: Similar to last year we will continue having
grade level concerts during the school day in the afternoon. Families are
still welcome to attend these school day concerts.
Choir/music club is an extra musical opportunity that is offered to
grades 4-6 in Jefferson and 4-8 in Fox River Academy. This concert, you
will see, is held during the evening.
We are also very excited to have our third annual kindergarten
through 3rd grade musical! This will be a springtime afterschool activity
and will also have an evening concert for you to enjoy (if your child chooses
to participate). More information will follow in the next few months about
auditions, rehearsals, and the performance!
From Mrs. Pynenberg (Band) and Mrs. Walters (Strings):
Our band and strings students will have performance opportunities at
different times during the year. Please see the second page for concert
dates and times. Thank you for supporting your child in their musical
endeavors!

Measels: More Than Just a Rash
Measles is a highly contagious viral disease that spreads through the air. When an infected person coughs or sneezes the virus is expelled into the air and can remain in the room for up to two hours! According to the CDC, up to 9 out of 10 people nearby will become infected if they are not protected. The best protection against measles is the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine.
Symptoms usually appear 7-14 days after infection with the virus, but may take as long as 21 days to present.
7-21 days after infection:
● High fever (can spike over 104℉)
● Cough
● Runny nose
● Red, watery eyes
2-3 days after symptoms begin:
● Tiny, white spots may appear inside the mouth (Koplik spots)
3-5 days after symptoms begin:
● Rash (usually starts on the face or upper neck then spreads to the rest of the body)
An infected person is contagious for four days before they develop a rash and remains contagious for four days after the rash appears.
A measles infection can cause serious health complications, especially in children under five years of age and those that are immunocompromised. Some of these serious complications include encephalitis (swelling of the brain), blindness and pneumonia. According to the CDC, about 1 in 5 unvaccinated people in the U.S. who get measles is hospitalized and as many as 1 out of every 20 children with measles gets pneumonia, the most common cause of death from measles in young children.
For more information about measles, please see this Measles Q&A handout. To get more information about current measles activity in our area, please visit the CDC tracker where they update the counts weekly.
