The Carleton Chronicle
A weekly update from your principal, Mr. Kausch.
Carleton Shuffle Information
Our goal is to raise enough funds to supplement our students, activities, and extra-curriculars throughout the year. If every student raises $10, we will raise over $7,000 for our students' benefit. Some of the items on our wish list include updating our Media Center, supporting our Sports Banquets, providing private lesson tutoring for band students, providing recognition for our Honor Roll students, and multiple field trip opportunities for students. This list is not exhaustive and have more ambitious plans if we raise more funds.
Students will earn chances to win prizes for obtaining pledges in the amount of $10, $20, $50, and $100 pledges. The more they raise the better their chances. Some of the prizes include gift cards to various stores, wireless speakers, lunch with your favorite teacher, silly string fight with the principal (not very exciting), throwing a pie at the assistant principal (VERY EXCITING), and the grand prize drawing is a new GoPro.
We hope that you will support this fundraiser and can help your child raise a few dollars to benefit our school.

What our teachers have been learning.
- In Warren Consolidated Schools, we have committed to Professional Learning Communities (PLC's) as part of our professional learning for staff. PLC's are meant to group teachers into smaller groups in order to look at student achievement data, make informed decisions about data, and shape and guide future instruction as a result of those conversations.
- Today, we learned more about Multi-Tiered Systems of Support, the NWEA (which replaces the IOWA), and Power Standards.
Power Standards are the concepts in all curriculum areas that we have agreed to teach in great depth, with multiple opportunities to review and reteach. In other words, when this student leaves X class these are the "power standards" that they MUST KNOW. There will be other concepts that are nice to know, or need to know, but every student MUST KNOW these concepts.
NWEA results will provide immediate and accurate feedback to both students and teachers in three main content areas; Math, Reading, and Language. Your student will be coming home knowing where they struggle and where they excel, this will provide great insight for our teacher's to guide future instruction. Students should always try their best during the NWEA because it adapts to each individual student. Students should also see an increase in scores from the fall to spring NWEA sessions.
MTSS - Lastly, Multi-Tiered Systems of Support is a framework for the multitude of areas that schools focus their attention. Simply put, it allows us to provide learning opportunities for our high achieving students, students that need more accelerated instruction, and behavioral and social concerns of the middle school child. There are three tiers to group instructional strategies and students into. The first tier will be academic instruction and behavioral intervention that will benefit about 80% of our students. The next tier is set up to benefit the 15% that do not see the necessary results, and the third tier is for the remaining 5% that need the most support. The goal is to successfully reach 100% of our student body so that they can grow academically, socially, and behaviorally.
