Reading and Language Workshop
Essential Questions:
- Why do fairy tales exist?
- How does comparing and contrasting texts deepen a reader's thinking?
In reading workshop we are comparing and contrasting many fairy tale elements of various fairy tales. Some of these elements include:
- Fairy Tales can have numeric patterns of 3's and 7's.
- Fairy Tales often begin with "Once upon a time..."
- Fairy Tales have good characters.
- Fairy Tales have evil characters.
- Fairy Tales contain magic.
- The setting often takes place in a far away land.
- Fairy Tales often end "happily ever after."
- Fairy Tales can have royalty.
In language workshop we are working on comparing and contrasting many versions of Cinderella. Some of these include, Yeh-Shen, Rough-Face Girl, Domitila and The Irish Cinderlad.
Sad Goodbye, Exciting Hello Again!
On Thursday, January 18, we will be saying goodbye to Mrs. Altheimer. She has done a fantastic job in second grade while Mrs. Mayo was on maternity leave. We are so fortunate to have had such an amazing teacher with us the last 3 months. She will truly be missed! However, she promises to come back and help with projects and activities the rest of the year! So it really isn't goodbye, but see you soon!
On the other hand, we are very excited to welcome back Mrs. Mayo. She has been at home taking care of her adorable Erin, but is excited to get back to second grade too. We are so happy that we get to welcome her back on Friday, January 19th!
Thanks for all of your support from home!
