MASSABESIC HIGH SCHOOL
2023-2024
MHS STUDENT & FAMILY NEWSLETTER
Week of October 28 - November 1, 2024
RSU 57 & Massabesic High School
"Preparing students for success in an ever-changing world."
Hello Mustang Nation,
While I write this newsletter from the comfort of my office, it is a bit of a strange experience as I can hear screams coming from our Science and Math corridors where the Class of 2025 has constructed an incredible 'haunted house' environment as part of the Senior Scare! Although this event on our campus is more spooky and sinister than other events, it is also a nice reminder of how dedicated and creative our MHS students are when they commit to a united goal. If you were unable to make it to the event, but would like to see the hard work of our students, staff, and parent volunteers, make sure to check out the link later on in this newsletter (you'll have to imagine the video with the lights off to get the full effect!).
The nationally recognized holiday of Halloween will occur this week (Thursday). Costumes are welcomed for students and staff who wish to celebrate in this manner. However, masks are not allowed, real/fake weapons are prohibited as part of costuming, real/fake blood or gore is prohibited, costumes must adhere to the RSU 57 Dress Code Policy (linked in the Student & Family Handbook in this newsletter), and face paint/accessories must not mask or disguise students identities. Administration will address any students in violation of these parameters.
As a reminder, our upcoming week will follow the Green/White color rotation schedule below.
Monday 10/28 - GREEN
Tuesday 10/29 - WHITE
Wednesday 10/30 - GREEN
Thursday 10/31 - WHITE
Friday 11/01 - GREEN
Take care,
-Mr. Thurlow

Sophomores Brielle Densmore & Connor Remilard Representing MHS!
Congratulations to Brielle Densmore and Connor Remilard who have each earned an all-expenses-paid trip to Valley Forge Pennsylvania for the 2024 Spirit of America Youth Leadership Conference taking place from November 7th-10th. Brielle and Connor wrote essays that advanced from a regional level to win the 'National Americanism Contest. They will be sponsored by the AMVETS and AMVETS Ladies Auxilary - a special thank you to these two organizations for their support of MHS students and programming. Also, a special thank you to RSU 57 staff member Ms. Monica Wardwell for her support of these students through the process. Congratulations Brielle and Connor, well done!
MHS English Classes Visit Salem, Massachusetts!
Students enrolled in Mrs. Stephenson's English courses recently visited Salem, Massachusetts famous for the setting of the Salem Witch Trials. Students have been reading 'The Crucible' (set in Salem in 1692) and had a great day to explore the community and history chronicled in the famous story by Arthur Miller.
ANNUAL MHS CAREER FAIR!
We are incredibly grateful to the dozens of vendors and organizations who joined us on Wednesday, October 23 to promote various career pathways for our student population. All MHS students were granted the opportunity to visit the Career Fair throughout the morning and speak with representatives from numerous industrious, post-secondary institutions, and branches of the military. Thank you to Mrs. Stephenson, the Career & College Readiness staff group, and select students for their work to make this wonderful event such a success each year.
Congratulations to Lydia Ridley at the Fryeburg Fair!
Lydia Ridley, Grade 10 recently competed in many different events at the Fryeburg Fair.
