Iredell ISD
October Newsletter
Iredell ISD isn’t just a place of learning; it’s a hub for community engagement. Families, neighbors, and alumni come together to support the school, attend events, and celebrate achievements. Go Dragons! This community truly embodies the saying, “It takes a village.”
Homecoming plays a significant role in nurturing school spirit and pride among students and alumni. The week leading up to the homecoming game buzzes with excitement. Themed dress-up days, pep rallies, and friendly competitions create a sense of unity and camaraderie. It’s a time when everyone proudly wears their school colors and chants their team’s fight song.
The highlight of homecoming is undoubtedly the football game. Current students and alumni gather to cheer on the Dragons. Alumni reminisce about their own PK-12 school experiences while witnessing the passion and dedication of today’s students. This unity strengthens the overall school community and creates lasting bonds across generations.
Alumni and community engagement are vital for any school community. When alumni participate in homecoming events, they reconnect with their alma mater. According to studies, over 60% of alumni report increased feelings of connection after participating in homecoming activities. Alumni become mentors and advocates who contribute to Iredell ISD’s legacy.
We look forward to seeing our distinguished alumni at our upcoming parade (10/9), bonfire (10/9), football game (10/11), golf tournament (10/12), fundraisers (10/9 and 10/12), and class reunions (10/12)!
We regularly utilize SchoolMessenger to send text-based updates related to school happenings. If you are not receiving these messages or have changed your phone number, please be sure to call the school and let Mrs. Sheffield or Mrs. Johnston know.

Message from Mr. Morrow💬
Looking ahead to the 2024-2025 school year, we are encouraged by the growth in student enrollment, which is expected to further enhance our state revenues. Many schools in Bosque County have experienced a decline in enrollment. The slight growth in Iredell ISD is a testament to the educational programs we have in place and the quality faculty/staff we employ. Iredell ISD is a desirable transfer opportunity for many families and a source of pride for those who live in our school district. While we continue to manage our financial resources prudently, the only debt the district has is approximately $4 million from the 2017 bond measure that provided for a new HS building, vocational agriculture facility, and other upgrades. We remain committed to maintaining our facilities and providing a high-quality education for all students. The board of trustees and administration take their fiscal responsibilities very seriously, ensuring that every dollar is spent wisely to benefit our students and staff.
Thank you for your continued support and dedication to Iredell ISD. Together, we will continue to build a strong and vibrant educational community.

Junior Class Fundraiser

Counselor's Corner
In October, we celebrate Red Ribbon Week which is about making healthy life choices with regard to substance use. Did you know that the most powerful deterrent to keep students from using drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, and vapes is parental influence?
Research consistently shows that children are more likely to avoid substance use when they have strong, supportive relationships with their parents or guardians. Parents/Guardians who:
Communicate openly and honestly about the dangers of substance abuse
Set clear expectations and boundaries
Model healthy behaviors themselves
Show genuine interest in their child's life
are more likely to have children who make healthy choices.
Other factors that can deter substance use include:
Strong peer relationships: Having friends who do not use substances can make it easier for a student to resist peer pressure.
Positive school environment: A school that promotes healthy behaviors and provides support for students can also be a deterrent.
Educational campaigns: Informative campaigns like Red Ribbon week that educate students about the risks of substance abuse are effective as well.
While these factors can all play a role, parental influence is generally considered the most powerful deterrent. With that in mind, please help support our efforts to stress the importance of making healthy life choices all year long and during our fun week of Red Ribbon Activities.

Attendance- Every Day Counts!
Missing 10 percent or more of school days due to absence for any reason—excused, unexcused absences, and suspensions—can translate into students having difficulty learning to read by the third grade, achieving in middle school, and graduating from high school.
Please get in touch with Mrs. Sheffield or Mrs. Johnston if you have any questions regarding absences and attendance. Iredell ISD teachers encourage regular attendance, and school-wide incentives are in place to recognize students with outstanding attendance.
Our top attendance winners for the 1st six weeks was the 8th grade class!
Mrs. Boren was the winner for the 1st Six Weeks Staff Member Perfect Attendance Drawing
National Custodian Day honors janitors or caretakers who maintain cleanliness and order in various facilities. This day highlights the critical role they play in ensuring safe, clean, and functional environments in schools, hospitals, and office buildings.
Mrs. Sharon and Ms. Heather, we appreciate you both! Thank you for all that you do.
National Coaches Day
A Day for Coaches
Each year on October 6th, we observe National Coaches Day. This special day is dedicated to honoring the significant impact coaches have on athletes and the world of sports. It's a chance to recognize their dedication, hard work, and positive influence on their teams and communities.
History of National Coaches Day
National Coaches Day was officially established in October 1972 by President Richard Nixon. President Nixon's proclamation emphasized the importance of coaches in teaching not only sports skills but also valuable life lessons and providing guidance.
Our coaches at Iredell ISD truly go above and beyond. They wear many hats, always prioritizing the well-being and success of our students. Their dedication is evident in the extra effort they put in, and we are grateful for their commitment to our school community.
Parent Portal
Parent Portal is an easy-to-use web resource, available on any device with an internet connection. It allows parents and guardians to access information about their students, such as attendance, grades, assignments, schedules, progress reports and report cards. If you need assistance accessing the Portal, please contact Mrs. Sheffield at 254-364-2411.
Progress Reports:
Progress reports will be posted on the portal unless the student has a failing average. Students with a failing average will require a parent signature on their progress report.
Report Cards:
Report cards will be sent home at the end of every six weeks. Please sign and return as soon as possible. We appreciate your support.
Go Guardian
GoGuardian is a program that we utilize throughout the district to help monitor and protect our students. GoGuardian actively monitors and protects students from explicit content on the internet. GoGuardian is also used to actively monitor classrooms on Chromebooks from 3rd grade through 12th grade. The classroom monitoring allows teachers to see student Chromebooks activity in real time to help minimize distractions.
Chromebook activity can also be monitored while at home. If you have any questions regarding your child's Chromebook usage, please don't hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher or Mrs. Johnston.
