Principally Speaking
Last week’s Fox Ridge Fall Fest was a huge success! Thank you to everyone who came out and to those who organized the evening’s events. I especially enjoyed seeing the trunk-or-treat vehicles—the themes and decorations were fantastic, and I had never attended a trunk-or-treat before. I heard so much positive feedback about the night. Special thanks to Jaci Chapeck for leading the PTO committee, along with Brandi Murphy, Emily Ide, and Johnie Carroll, for creating such an amazing event.
This morning, we hosted our first Fox Ridge Coffee with the Principal, where we highlighted Neurodiversity and introduced our staff who support our students. Thank you to the parents who joined us, and to Mrs. Wollak, our social worker; Mrs. Griffiths, our Student Support Interventionist (SSI); and Mrs. Scharping, our school psychologist. One of the participants suggested we create a slideshow featuring names, photos, and roles of our student support team. Look out for this in future communications—I appreciate the valuable suggestion!
Halloween Happenings
On Halloween, we will host a parade on the back playground. Families are invited to line the perimeter of the blacktop to watch. Students will exit through Door 11, parade around the blacktop by first heading east, then south, and continuing along the back before circling around and re-entering through Door 15. The students will leave the building for the parade at about 2:15, returning to their classrooms for their class parties from approximately 2:25 to 3:10. All students will then conclude their day in the gym with the Fox Trot reward event, where they’ll have the chance to pie the staff. Students will be dismissed from the gym.
If you plan to adjust your child’s transportation home on Halloween, please inform the office.
Room parents who need to set up for parties may enter at 2:00 to prepare, allowing them time to go outside and view the parade.
Primary Literacy Night
In a few weeks we will host our first primary family literacy night. Parents and students in grades kindergarten-second grade are invited to learn about early literacy skills, parents and kids will participate in activities created by a team led by our reading specialist, Amy Kappele. We are planning for 3 skill based rotations. Please use the google form to RSVP, due to content and space we can only accomodate students and parents in grades K-2.
Please use the link to RSVP using the google form-RSVPs are due by Tuesday, October 29 so we can plan for the attendees.
The following information is being provided as a reminder of District 303's attendance procedures and how information may be recorded and shared with a student's family throughout the school year.

VETERAN'S DAY
In an effort to honor our veteran's we are beginning to plan our Veteran's day celebration. I am including a google form which serves as an invitation for any family members or community members who served.
Below is an attached flyer for you to print and complete and return to school so we can place these up in our hallways and students can see photos and information regarding Fox Ridge community veterans. More information will be shared regarding a gathering.
Donations Needed for Paws
As part of our school wide behavior incentives, individual students earn Golden Paws from teachers for meeting our behavior expectations of being respectful, responsible and safe. The Paws are entered into a raffle drawing that takes place on Fridays during lunch time. Students are recognized by their peers and are able to select a small prize. If you have items you would like to donate (stickers, croc charms, pokemon cards, etc), please send them in to Mrs. Patty Griffith, our Student Support Interventionist.

Health Office News
CHANGE OF CLOTHES:
Please remember to send a weather appropriate change of clothes to school with your student.
Also, we need donations of gently used girls and boys clothes sizes 5/6 and 7/8 to keep in the health office. Pants, shirts and underwear are desperately needed.
ILLNESS:
If your student is diagnosed with an illness or infection, please notify the health office. We are tracking our students' health closely to watch for any trends in the classrooms. This includes, but not limited to, respiratory illnesses, COVID, Flu, Pink Eye, and Strep. We appreciate any information you give us regarding your student in the event they are ill.
Please remind your student to cover their coughs and sneezes and wash their hands often.
The CDC recommends that people with strep throat stay home from work, school, or daycare until they meet the following criteria:
- They are no longer feverish
- They have been taking antibiotics for at least 12–24 hours
People with strep throat should also:
- Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or sleeve
- Wash hands frequently
- Wash cups, utensils, and other items that have been touched by an infected person

Sign up to help the children in D303 receive holiday gifts from wish lists that each family personally creates. Wish lists consist of a few toy ideas as well as basic items like clothing, coats, and shoes. When signing up to be a Santa's Helper, you will be shopping for a child who will remain anonymous. Helpers are asked to purchase 5-10 items from their wish list. Since this, in many cases, will be the only gifts children receive, donors can expect to spend between $75-$100 per child.
