MESPTO GENERAL MEETING MINUTES
January 8, 2025
Call to Order – Michelle Reese called the meeting to order at 7: 08pm.
Secretary’s Report – Brittany asked attendees to take a look at last months minutes. Brittany asked for a motion. Michelle and Rachel said yes.
Treasurer's Report – No Major Updates, Final Budget file on Treasurer’s corner in the drive has been updated, on target for where we wanted to be for the year. The only exception is Enrichment, we lost $350 in Fall Enrichment. Need to keep in mind for Spring Enrichment. Reminder- if you will be selling anything/need cash for your events, a change request needs to be submitted several days in advance to allow us to get to the bank (bank usually requires 24 hours notice for large requests). Next large event will be Book Fair and Bingo usually requiring change.
Principals Report - Thank you to PTO and all the families who helped for the conference luncheon, and the generosity for the giving tree. TY to all the families who donated and helped out for holiday parties and holiday shop. We did reach our 1000 lbs of plastic right before winter break.
Yoga night: This is a great chance to share relaxation techniques with your child and wind down before bedtime.
Ned assembly: This is an assembly that focuses on positive thinking and the power of yet. It has yoyo tricks and fun stories. This is a free assembly but it is a pay it forward assembly. We are required to sell yoyos for 5 days after the assembly. More details will come explaining. You can pay in advance or in Constitution Hall. We will have an area set up at recess to have a yoyo practice area.
Red Robin fundraiser: We are having a new fundraiser on Wednesday, January 22 at Red Robin in Oxford Valley. 20 percent of proceeds will go to Makefield Elementary School PTO. Grab some friends and have a fun night at Red Robin. This fundraiser is all day so you can go at any time
Talent show: This is an every other year event. Sign up is currently happening. We are looking for someone/ multiple people to begin taking over this event. The next talent show will be January 2027. Please let us know if you’re interested in running this event in future years.
Spring enrichment: Sign ups open Monday, January 13. It starts February 12. We need parent volunteers to be present each week. We are looking for parent volunteers. It will be Wednesday and Thursdays. We offer a discount for parent volunteers.
MLK Jr Day of Service is January 20. We are partnering with Cradles to Crayons and asking students to make cards that will go in backpacks that are distributed in the beginning of the school year. We will also be collecting donations of NEW socks, winter hats, gloves and mittens. More details can be found in the backpack and on the PTO Facebook.
Valentine’s Day service project: February 13. This is not a party but it is a service project that benefits some sort of organization/ charity
Social media event for parents on 2/19: This is an event to go over dangers of children being on social media. There will be useful information on safer phone options/ technology.
76ers night: This is a new event, March 3. There will be a link to purchase tickets directly. There will be a designated Makefield section. If you wish to sit with friends, you should buy tickets together and buy them quickly.
Skate Night: February 20, 6-9 pm. This is a free event just for Makefield families. It's closed to the public.
Book Fair: March 3- March 7 during the students library time. It's best to have as many parent helpers as possible. This is a great way to see your child and be involved.
Family Fun Night: March 5 There will be different crafts and board games available. The book fair will be open at this time.
Bingo: March 7: This is our biggest event. It’s a bit different this year. It’s half designer bags/ half other big ticket items. This is adults only. We are collecting any unused items/ gift cards to place in our gift baskets. Please let us know if you have any donations!
Kim Danley-McNulty would like to create a wellness committee. She wants to find ways to make changes at school to balance the body/ mind/ health. Contact Kim if you wish to discuss this idea more.

Makefield Community Outreach
Dear Makefield Families,
Makefield Community Outreach (formally known as the Sunshine Committee) would like to take a moment to let you know more about what we do. This program is sponsored by the MESPTO and has a mission to support teachers, students, and their families to ensure that the entire Makefield community has what they need to be successful in school. In order to reach our entire school community we would like to take this time to describe the resources that we have available this fall and winter. We will reach out again in the spring with more information about future opportunities.
If you would like to use any of the options below, please reach out to Colleen Wierzbowski cwierzbowski@pennsburysd.org. To respect the privacy of all of our community members, Colleen will be the only one to receive emails and requests. The committee will fulfill her requests, but will never know who the resources are going to.
In the Fall and throughout the year we provide:
Teachers with Back to School Gift Cards to help set up their classrooms
The Nurse with new clothes for days when kids might need to change
Daily Snacks for each classroom like pretzels or animal crackers for days when kids forget
Halloween costumes
Books for reading at home
Back to school supplies
Vouchers for Oktoberfest
Vouchers for Thanksgiving pies
Scholarships for Fall Enrichment classes and Field Trips
Gift cards for food and clothes
In the Winter we provide:
Winter coats, boots, hats, and gloves
Vouchers for students to use at the Holiday Shop and the Book Fair
