From the Principal's Desk
Dear Adler Park Families,
This holiday season, our Adler Park community and Student Council truly embodied the spirit of giving! Thanks to your generous contributions, our Personal Hygiene Item Drive was a huge success, allowing us to assemble over 100 personal care kit bags for those in need. We are so proud of our students for their hard work and compassion in making a difference in our community.
As we wrap up this year, I want to wish all of our Adler Park families a joyful holiday season filled with warmth and cheer. May the new year bring happiness, health, and continued opportunities to learn and grow together!
Warmly,
Kendall Miller
Principal

Drop Off Reminders on Indoor Days
Tis the season for those chilly temperatures and wind chills that mean we’re inside during the morning drop off! Please see the reminders below so everyone gets in the building quickly, safely and ready to learn.
Pull all the way forward to door 10 on the south side of the building
Children should exit the cars from the RIGHT SIDE only, the side facing the building, for their safety
Ensure your children have their belongings organized so they can quickly exit the car
Traffic should remain single file unless there is a bus stopped with their yellow flashing lights on. It is ok to go around them while they do their post drop off checks to keep the line moving.
Cars should wait for the buses when their red lights are flashing and the stop sign is out.
Thank you!
The Chill Has Arrived!
As the cooler weather settles in, please help us to ensure that children are dressed appropriately for the elements. Please label coats, snow pants, hats, gloves, boots, etc.
Just a reminder that students will be kept indoors for recess only when air temperatures fall below 10 degrees or when the wind chill temperature falls below 0. With this in mind, please have children dress appropriately for recess.
When the snow begins to stick, students need to be properly dressed to be allowed to play in the snow. Students must be wearing their “5 Points.”
Coat
Gloves
Hat/Hood
Snow Pants
Boots
Students who are not wearing their 5 Points can still go outside for recess, but must remain on the blacktop.
Calendar Survey
Please fill out the D70 calendar survey if you haven't had a chance to. This survey specifically asks families about start date preferences, Thanksgiving Break preferences, and more. Help us build a calendar that works well for students, staff, and families! Link is given below. Thank you!
Families Learning Together
Families Learning Together is a District 70 initiative to provide learning
opportunities for our parents, staff, caregivers and community.
This year District 70 has partnered with FAN. FAN is an organization that curates a high-quality speaker series for local school districts and other government groups. District 70, along with Lincolnshire, Barrington, Kenilworth, Winnetka and other local school districts and organizations are excited to bring families engaging and relevant speakers thru FAN. These events are free for our families and staff to attend.
Please be sure to check if the event is in-person or on Zoom.
January Events
FAN Topic: The Disengaged Teen: Helping Kids Learn Better, Feel Better, and Live Better
Presenters: Jenny Anderson and Rebecca Winthrop, Ph.D
Interviewer: Charles Duhigg, FAN '24
Date: January 16, 2025 at 7:00 pm
Zoom Registration Link: ZOOM COMING SOON
Program Information:
Anderson is an award-winning journalist, speaker, and author specializing in learning, technology, and parenting. Currently, he is writing for The New York Times, TIME, and The Atlantic. He worked at Quartz, a digital media startup where she pioneered "obsessions" or beats on the Science of Learning, the Art of Parenting, the Future of Schools, and Rewiring Childhood. Winthrop is a pioneering authority in the field of education. She is a Senior Fellow and Director of the Center for Universal Education at Brookings Institution and Adjunct Professor at Georgetown University. Anderson and Winthrop were referred to FAN by David Yeager, and we're super impressed by their sharp, observant take on youth, education, and mental health. They are an impressive duo, and we anticipate an excellent conversation, given that their friend Charlie Duhigg is asking the questions.
FAN Topic: Outraged: Why We Fight About Morality and Politics and How to Find Common Ground
Presenters: Kurt Gray, Ph.D.
Interviewer: Paul Bloom, Ph.D., FAN '23
Date: January 23, 2025 at 7:00 pm
Zoom Registration Link: ZOOM COMING SOON
Program Information:
Gray is a professor in Psychology and Neuroscience at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he directs the Deepest Beliefs Lab and the Center for the Science of Moral Understanding. He is also an adjunct professor in Organizational Behavior at the Kenan-Flagler Business School at UNC, teaching organizational ethics and team processes. There is tons of early buzz about Gray's forthcoming book, and what a timely topic. He has a fascinating take on the "harm-based moral mind," and his years of research into the neuroscience of morality and why people typecast others have made him a leading figure in this discipline. He is thrilled that Paul Bloom accepted our invitation to be his conversation partner -- Paul is a giant in his field and was a mentor to Kurt.
FAN Topic: Defy: The Power of No in a World That Demands Yes
Presenters: Sunita Sah, MD, Ph.D.
Interviewer: LaTosha Brown
Date: January 27, 2025 at 7:00 pm
Zoom Registration Link: ZOOM COMING SOON
Program Information:
Award-winning professor of management and organizations at Cornell University's SC Johnson Graduate School of Management, and a core faculty fellow in the new Cornell Health Policy Center. She is the Director of Cornell's Academic Leadership Institute. Sah was formerly the KPMG Professor of Management Studies at Cambridge Judge Business School of the University of Cambridge. Sah is a force, and her research as to why people remain silent and compliant in situations that they know are wrong is revelatory. Many seek to align their actions with their values -- Sah's research and framing offer a path to making that happen.
