Straight From the Principal's Office
Hello Lincoln Families!!
Can you believe the official arrival of spring is less than twenty days away? The bursts of warm weather and sunny skies are a welcome change. March 1 ended the second trimester of the school year. Look for a copy of your child's report card to come home on Tuesday, March 12. Grades will also be available online to view in Progressbook. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns as you review their progress.
Many exciting events are happening here at Lincoln Elementary in March. We will be celebrating Family First Night on March 4. This means no homework for your child. Take this special evening to celebrate having fun together as a family. Cook a meal together, take a walk, or have a game night. The possibilities are endless! However you choose to celebrate, we hope you enjoy time together.
We hope to see you at our Special Person Dance on March 8. Our theme is Princess vs. Superhero. Come dressed and ready to dance the night away as your favorite princess or superhero. The fun begins at 6:00 pm.
Mark your calendar for our Scholastic Book Fair & Open House/Ice Cream Social Event later this month too. Our spring flower fundraiser sale also kicks off this week and runs through March 19. Your child will be bringing home all the details with an order form. These beautiful flowers are custom-grown just for you and delivered right here to Lincoln. They are absolutely beautiful and would make a lovely Mother's Day gift! Our building goal is to sell 400 flowers. If students reach this goal, EVERY student will have the chance to silly-string Mrs. Maslyk!
Remember to order a yearbook! The order window closes Friday, March 8.
Willis Wrap Up
Hello Lincoln Families!
February Reflection
Thank you for all your support for Kindness Month 2024, and for all you did to help Lincoln become a Kinder School (we did it!!). In total, we had many students turn in their challenge checklists, and so many more who practiced small acts of kindness throughout the week. I hosted a dragon scale. kindness card, bracelet and rock painting stations throughout this month, so you may have been the recipient of 1 (or many) acts of kindness. More than anything, we wanted to emphasize that even one small act of kindness can make the difference in someone's life. Personally, I felt that show of kindness during National School Counseling Week. You and your students made me feel so special and so grateful to be a part of this amazing community.Honesty Pillar
Last month, Lincoln focused on the character trait honesty. Together we tuned into what emotions we feel when we are being honest as well as the emotions we have when we are dishonest. Together we discussed that honesty can feel uncomfortable, however after our honest actions/words we experience comfortable emotions such as: pride, determination, acceptance.
This Month:
In March, we will be exploring the character trait of cooperation. I will be visiting classrooms to teach about both the importance of cooperation as well as the power of problem solving. Cooperation as well as problem solving often involves effective communication as well as knowing how to be responsible in many situations. Strengthening and nurturing this set of skills helps children cope with challenges as they come. Helping to develop your childβs independence, allowing for them to grow into confident, responsible adults. Another importance of problem-solving skills is its impact on relationships. Being able to get to the bottom of a problem and find solutions while cooperating together, with all the parties involved, helps keep relationships intact and eliminate conflicts as they arise.
Girls on The Run
Practices start: Tuesday, March 5 and will be held on Tuesday/Thursdays 3:30pm-4:45pm ending on May 14th, with the 5k being held on May 11th.
Weekender Bags
If you would like to participate and receive a weekly food bag from Feeding Medina County, please sign the permission form at the bottom of the attached letter and return to the Lincoln office.
News from the Nurse π©ββοΈ
The Lincoln Elementary School Clinic urgently needs your support. If you or your loved ones have any new or gently used clothing items, please consider donating them to our school nurse. We're running low on spare clothes, essential for various situations, leaving the clinic nearly out. Your donations will prevent parents/guardians from being called for a change of clothes.
Items needed most:
- Girls' leggings/sweatpants/Pull-on Shorts: Sizes 5-6, 7-8, 10
- Boys' sweatpants/joggers/ Pull-on shorts: Sizes 5-6, 7-8, 10
Your generosity can make a difference. Let's come together to ensure every student has what they need. Drop off your donations at the school clinic. Thank you for being a crucial part of our Lincoln family!

Let's talk Title One with Mrs. Zakany π
Itβs hard to believe that Spring is just around the corner. If you would like more information about how to support your childβs reading skills, please consider attending the Family Title Meeting on Tuesday, March 19 from 6:45 - 7:30. In celebration of Read Across America Day on March 2, consider taking a few minutes to listen to your child read or read to your child. Here are some ways you can read with your child:
1. Echo read with your child. You read a line and your child repeats what you say. Encourage your child to point to each word as they read. This will help your child keep track of where they are in what they are reading.
2. Choral read with your child. This means that you and your child read a passage at the same time.
3. Cloze read with your child. This means you and your child read together, and then you stop reading for a moment, and your child reads the word you stop at, and then you continue reading.
This month, the Scholastic Book Fair returns to Lincoln Elementary. What a wonderful way to encourage your child to read! Lastly, remember that reading can take many forms. Any time your child reads a poster, a recipe, a magazine, a comic book, or a closed caption on a television, he or she is reading. Please encourage your child to read daily!
