8th Grade Promotion Ceremony Information with Q&A
What is the Student Dress Code for the 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony?
King Science Middle School’s 8th Grade Promotion is a dignified ceremony. Students are being presented to members of the school board, district leadership, and most importantly, the community at large. Students should be dressed in a way that is interview appropriate, often described as "business casual." Examples of such attire would include dresses or dress pants/shirts for female students, and dress pants or slacks and a collared shirt for male students. Ties and jackets are optional.
Ceremony Etiquette:
To make sure everyone can enjoy the event; we ask our families to consider the following:
· Parents taking pictures should avoid blocking the view of other spectators.
· Please do not use artificial noise makers such as horns or whistles that interfere with the reading of names during the ceremony or interrupt by shouting or yelling. This often results in other students’ names not being heard by families.
· School rules regarding student behavior apply to ALL events. A copy of the school rules is available online in the OPS STUDENT HANDBOOK.
Where do I park? You can park in the main parking lot at North High School.
What time does the program start? The program starts at 5pm. STUDENTS NEED TO ARRIVE BY 4:30 p.m.
What time does the program end? We are aiming for the ceremony to last around an hour. We have it slotted as from 4:30-6:30 to allow for any pictures the family might want to take at the end of the ceremony.
Will there be refreshments? No, food will not be served.
Do I need a ticket? No, there is plenty of space in the stands for everyone. However, seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
What time does my student need to be there? All 8th grade students must report to the staging area a 1/2 hour (4:00 pm) before the ceremony begins.
Will there be graduation practice? Yes, the graduation practice will take place at King Science Middle School. More details will follow in the spring.
Do we have time after the ceremony to take pictures? Yes, after the ceremony you will be able to join your student for photos.
What iF my student rides a bus home but on this date I want them to go from KSTM to North and I plan to meet them there? We will have a bus that takes students from KSTM to North that day. It will be by sign-up only, students needing the transportation will need to sign-up in advance. We will have sign-ups for this option the week prior during all lunches. Note - we will have no bus transportation back to KSTM.

ATTENTION INCOMING 7th GRADE FAMILIES - FROM THE NURSE!!!
Dear Incoming 7th grade Families: We are so excited to welcome your student to 7th grade this fall! We are sending this reminder message to all incoming 7th grade families that students need a physical exam and to be up to date on all immunizations before school begins. This is a requirement based on Nebraska state law. We recommend contacting your child’s healthcare provider now, as spots can fill up quickly. Families can also visit a school-based health center. Bring copies of health information to school prior to the start of the school year OR have the health care provider fax records to the school – Attention: School Nurse. If you have already submitted this information, no additional paperwork is needed. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s school. Please know that calls will be answered sporadically while staff are on summer break. School secretaries return on Aug 1st .

Tardy Notifications
Attention Students and Families: There are 415 minutes in the school day, and every minute counts! Tardies to class disrupt the classroom, interrupt the lesson, and put students at risk of falling behind. The school will send daily emails to parents and guardians of students who were tardy to one or more classes.. BE RESPONSIBLE, WILDCATS! Get to class on time.
Just a reminder, we do not let students carry around large backpacks at KSTM. Students may carry around draw-string bags (one was provided to every student), small backpacks, side satchels, small purses. Students must put all large backpacks or personal items in their lockers.
