Cool Classrooms
French 3 & 4 students are acting out cooking demonstrations. Small groups learn relevant vocabulary, including food words and cooking actions. Practice in these groups allows students a safe space to provide each other feedback as they prepare for their true performance assessment. Role play can be a powerful instructional strategy to increase student engagement and provide an authentic reason for the learning that is taking place.
Spanish 1 students are learning about family members. In a gallery walk, students circulate about the classroom, reading Spanish-language descriptions of each person. Students must understand the vocabulary well enough to translate between Spanish and English to match each person's description. A gallery walk is a great activity that gets students out of their seats and having meaningful conversation with their peers on course content.
Student Council
Student Council has been busy this week. We hosted a blood drive on Thursday and over 40 individuals attempted to donate blood!!! Way to go Zebras!!
Student council members from both Wayne and Glenn joined together for a leadership opportunity. The Michigan Director of Student Services at Michigan Association of Secondary School Principals came to WMHS to lead the activities between both councils. Students engaged in team building activities as well as discussions on the goals and purposes of our organizations. It was an amazing event!!
HOLIDAY FUN!
Every Friday in December is Holiday shirt day. Please wear your cute, ugly, favorite, etc shirt to spread holiday cheer!!
The last week of December will be a winter spirit week. See the days posted below.
Upward Bound
Upward Bound is a federally funded program that we are fortunate to have here at WMHS. This program is designed to assist, encourage, and motivate students who have the potential and desire to continue their education beyond high school. Currently there are 69 students in the program.
