LEINSTER COMMUNITY SCHOOL WILL REMAIN OPEN
Welcome back to Term Three. We are looking forward an exciting and fun filled ten weeks.
I would like to take this opportunity to extend my personal support and care to the students and families who are going through a period of uncertainty and decision-making regarding changes in their employment.
My door is always open and I am available to listen and provide support if needed. Our Student Wellbeing Officer is another option for parents and students who need someone to talk to.
Staff are very aware of the need to provide empathy and a place of comfort for students as well as fun and engaging opportunities that will hopefully keep spirits up.
The school will continue to provide a curriculum that will ensure progress and achievement of all our students. I can assure you that the school will remain open and in full operation providing the best possible education for our students.
On a separate note – we have been able to secure a new teacher for our Year 3/4 class. We welcome Ms Megan Garratt who will be joining us next Tuesday to take over full time in this class. I would like to thank Ms Sokra’a who has been the part time teacher in semester one and stepped in full time over the last two weeks.
We sadly say goodbye to Miss Jenny today. I know that the students are going to miss her very much. Miss Jenny has been a great asset to Leinster Community School, we are sorry to see her leave us however we wish her all the best for her endeavours at Laverton.
We welcome Ms Busher back to take our Year 2 class next week. Ms Busher is looking forward to returning to Leinster and getting to know our Year 2 students. I’m sure Ms Busher has some fun and interesting lessons planned ready for next week.
Warm regards,
Leanne Kelleher

“Unveiling the Exciting Learning Adventures in the high school room at Leinster Community School”
From the High School desk:
At Leinster Community School, learning in our high school is anything but ordinary! This term students are diving into dynamic topics, engaging in thought-provoking debates, and exploring innovative programs that are setting new standards in education at our school! From mastering the art of persuasive writing to debating the impacts of social media for under-16s and record numbers participating in the ‘Follow the Dream’ study club, our students are making the most of their educational journey.
In English, students are honing their persuasive writing skills with remarkable enthusiasm. They are learning how to craft compelling arguments, use rhetorical techniques, various language features and present their ideas convincingly. The recent assessment on social media usage for those under 16 sparked lively debates and intense discussions.
One student expressed her views, saying, "Social media can be a great tool for connection and learning, but it's also a double-edged sword. We need to teach younger kids how to use it responsibly. They talk to random people without even knowing it" On the other hand, it was argued, "Banning social media for under-16s might protect them, but it also limits their freedom and ability to express themselves. It's all about balance and education."
In addition to their regular classes, students are flocking to the newly established Study Club, which has seen impressive attendance since its inception. Meeting on a Monday afternoon with Ms Brewster and Mr Hyde on hand to assist (they are experts in Maths and Science), this club provides a collaborative space where students can finish off work, work on assessments, revise, and support each other academically.
Science is undergoing an exciting transformation with the introduction of new programs that emphasise hands-on learning and real-world applications. Students are delving into the fundamental laws that govern our universe. From experiments on motion and forces to discussions on energy and waves, students are gaining a solid foundation in this critical subject-Physics! Science week is almost here… watch this space for upcoming lunchtime activities and experiments!
Mathematics classes are abuzz with activity as students tackle challenging concepts like trigonometry and Pythagoras' theorem. Through practical applications and real-life problem-solving, they are discovering the relevance of these mathematical principles.
Our seniors are busy are exploring the intricacies of memoirs and crafting their own compelling narratives. In mathematics, they are tackling advanced theories in calculus and statistics. They are solving complex problems and applying mathematical principles to real-world scenarios. One of our year 12 students is even completing his work placement in the lower school with Mr Reynolds as part of his introduction to life beyond school. Exciting times ahead for our older students!
Stay tuned for more updates on the incredible achievements and adventures of our students. The future looks bright at Leinster Community School!

The students had the opportunity to improve their abilities in their favourite sport, and the Year 2 students were gifted a 2024 NAIDOC soccer ball. Thank you Gold Fields for sponsoring Football West's visit to Leinster Community School.
