As a result of the fact that SMCPS did not use any of its inclement weather days built into the calendar, the final day for the 2023-2024 school year has been adjusted.

• The final day for students will be Friday, June 7, 2024.

• The final day for 10-month staff will be Tuesday, June 11, 2024

• The final day for 11-month staff will be Monday, June 24, 2024.

Families of students rising into grades Kg through 5 for the 2024-25 school year are invited to share written input regarding class placement. The window for submitting your input will close on Monday, April 22nd. Please review the attached memo for details.

Author Michelle Knudsen will present to students at LES on Thursday, May 16th in the afternoon.

Michelle Knudsen writes a bit of everything - board books, picture books, and chapter books, including New York Times Best Seller, Library Lion. Ms. Farrell will be sharing more with students about her in the weeks before her visit.

You have an opportunity to purchase copies of her books, but are under no obligation to do so. Ms. Knudsen will sign all of the books as well as any that students bring to school to be signed. Orders are due by Thursday, May 18th.

Applications for STEM 6 will close on April 30, 2024. No late applications will be accepted. The online application will be found on the Academies page of the SMCPS website.

Eating nutritious food is a big part of staying healthy. Taste testing various fruits and vegetables can help students find new foods that they like. For this activity we need volunteers to help cut and serve items. Taste testing will take place May 13th-17th during PE classes. Please fill out the google form below if you are a registered volunteer and would like to help.

Breakfast will be served 8:00-8:45 a.m. Please be prepared to exit the school by 8:45, prior to the start of the school day. Register Here

To allow us to serve as many fans as possible, please select only one week to attend, up to two fans per student, at least one adult.

Parking is available on Duke Street and the Leonardtown Rescue Squad parking lot, but please do NOT block the Rescue Squad entrances. Please do NOT park in the staff parking lot or the bus loop.

The application for Pre-Kindergarten for the 2024-25 School Year is expected to open on April 11th. Please encourage anyone you know to investigate this full-time schooling option. Program acceptance is based on income factors, but anyone with a child who turns 4 on or before September 1, 2024 may apply! Look on the SMCPS website for more details.

Each year, the SMCPS Board of Education must present a proposed budget to the Commissioners of St. Mary's County (CSMC) in an attempt to secure funding for the operational budget. You can follow along with what is being proposed by watching the BOE meetings that are streamed live on YouTube.

There will be a public hearing at 6:30 pm on April 23, 2024 at Great Mills High School, prior to the final decisions made by the CSMC about how much funding will be allocated to the public school system. All are encouraged to participate.

The PTA is still seeking board members in order to remain active next school year and to continue to provide the many activities they supported this school year.
