Welcome Back Message from Dr. Snow
Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year! I hope that you had an enjoyable summer break. On behalf of the administration, faculty and staff, I would like to welcome back both our new and our returning students and families.
We are VERY excited to welcome the Class of 2028 and our transfer students. Each day provides students with an opportunity to take a step toward their desired future. Our goal is to support each student and to help them prepare for a bright, successful transition after high school.
There are many exciting changes at Keefe Tech that I am pleased to share with the members of our community. We are offering some exciting new theater electives, we made some great changes to the building, and we have welcomed great new faculty members. We are continually evaluating our course offerings and facilities to be sure we are meeting the needs of all students and offering a competitive high school experience.
I want to remind all students and families that they are part of the Keefe Tech community. Please feel free to contact us if you have a question, suggestion, or if we can be of any assistance. I look forward to meeting and working with you!
Sincerely,
Dr. Snow

Respiratory Illnesses & Covid Protocol
We will be following the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and the DESE recommendations to help prevent the spread of respiratory viruses at school.*
If you test positive for covid, stay home for at least 24 hours. You can return to school when:
- You have not had a fever for at least 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medicines; AND
- Your symptoms are improving and you feel well enough.
You may still be able to spread the virus that made you sick, even if you are feeling better so please continue to follow these precautions.
For at least the first 5 days after you resume normal activities:
Wear a mask anytime you are indoors around other people Avoid crowded indoor spaces.
Wash your hands often with soap and warm water. If soap and water are not available, use hand sanitizer containing at least 60% alcohol.
Avoid spending time with people who are at increased risk for severe disease.
Make plans to schedule your seasonal flu & covid shots
If you would like covid test kits for home, please reach out to the KT nurses.
*Please be aware that this protocol may change based on updated CDC/DPH recommendations.

To start of the school year for Mr Rabidou's Intro to Engineering Design class, students grouped up to build Spaghetti and Marshmallow towers!
In a 3 day activity students started by creating their own designs then coming together with group mates to combine their ideas into one final tower or building design. They then were given spaghetti and marshmallows to start and finish their build on day 2. After many falls, breaks, and changes made throughout the building process, students finished their towers! From houses, to cars, to random towers, they all turned out amazing! The students finished up the activity by writing up their entire process to finish an exciting week 1!

School Counseling
Welcome back KT students! A reminder to all students that the add/drop deadline to modify your schedule is Friday, September 20th! Guidance will be unable to accommodate schedule changes after this date. Please keep in mind that we made a huge transition to Powerschool this summer and we thank you for your understanding and patience!
Seniors who are planning to apply to 4-year colleges and universities should be working on their college applications, completing necessary essays and making sure they have connected with teachers about recommendations. Students should make an appointment with their School Counselor to review. Deadlines come up quick and we want to make sure they everyone is on track. Counselors are planning to put together some group workshops and different ways to get information our to seniors that are as user friendly as possible - say tuned!
Juniors who are interested in taking in the PSAT we are scheduling a date late October 2024 for this practice test - be on the lookout for signups! If you have a disability and are looking for accommodations for this exam, you can go here to start that process: https://accommodations.collegeboard.org/request-accommodations

Mental Health and Wellness Resources
Dear parents/guardians:
Here we are again; summer is over and school is already starting up. Those summer months always go by too quickly, though from what I have seen this week, students are eager to be back with their friends and to start a new school year. For freshmen, there is a lot of new information to take in. They will have an increased autonomy as high school students, facing a new frontier of career and technical education and expectations from academic teachers.
Upperclassmen are shifting into new priorities of getting used to being in their CTE program for an entire week or looking ahead at college or entering into the workforce.
As with all transitions, what helps younger people is the structure that school and being on a schedule brings. This shift is not always easy. Here are a few pointers on how to get your child on track for a successful school year, as well as a back-to-school toolkit.
1. Start the sleep schedule and screen time shift - What time does bedtime need to be to ensure a good night's sleep? What do you need to do in order to get that sleep? Perhaps you would want to sit down with your student to discuss when the phone should be shut off and what safeguards need to be in place in order to do so. Should you take the phone away at a certain time? It's certainly a controversial topic among teenagers but it's a known fact that phone use keeps students up well past their bedtimes.
2. Create a morning routine - Mornings can easily become a mad dash to get out of bed in time to catch the bus or a ride to school. I often hear that the most arguments occur in the morning over the tension to get students off to school. Perhaps a conversation about how to make the flow of what needs to happen to get out the door would be a good idea. After all, starting the day off on the wrong foot is tough to turn around for adolescents.
3. Discuss goals for the school year - Many parents wish that their student would get more involved with sports and after school activities. Perhaps a meaningful conversation or getting the school counselors involved in those discussions would help motivate your student. We hold an activities fair for freshmen in early September - encourage your 9th grader to sign up for a club in order to get involved from the get-go. Maybe a goal is to get homework done after school. We offer an after-school program on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2-3, with a 3 p.m bus available to take your student home. Now is the time to psych your student up for starting the year strong.
