CSMA Adviser Update
America needs journalists... and journalism teachers
Final day to submit J-Day presentation proposals
Videos for sessions aren't due until the 17th, so why not submit a session now?
J-Day 2020: We've Got It Covered
Not sure if your students can make it to our awesome day of journalism together? Don't worry: registrants will also be able to access the videos and materials for three months after the event, whether they tuned in on Sept. 24 or not!
This year's conference will be hosted on Attendify, a web- and mobile-based event platform. Registration is $10 per attendee for CSMA members and $15 per attendee for non-members.
Schools can register here, and payment may be made online. We will be happy to invoice you, of course, if you prefer.
Pro Tip: No transportation required! :)

If you've already registered for J-Day
You will receive an email with login instructions mid-month. If you have any questions in the meantime, feel free to ask. :)
Keep an eye on your mailbox: Best of Colorado and All-Colorado
- Watch for Best of Colorado certificates in your mailboxes.
- Watch for All-Colorado results in your email. Judges have until the end of September to return these, however, so don't get too anxious. Of course, feel free to email Elise if you have any questions!
- Watch for celebratory posts on social media! Wahoooo!
constitution day - Sept. 17
- Classroom Exchanges: The Classroom Exchanges program connects middle and high school students across the United States for virtual peer to peer conversations about the Constitution. Moderated by National Constitution Center scholars, federal judges and master teaches, the Classroom Exchanges use the Interactive Constitution to teach constitutional principles and civil dialogue skills.
- Interactive Constitution: The National Constitution Center brings innovative teaching tools to your classroom. Our unique approach to constitutional education emphasizes historic storytelling, constitutional rather than political questions, and the habits of civil dialogue and reflection.
- Poster Design Contest: The contest invites K-12 entrants (including homeschoolers) to celebrate Constitution Day (Sept. 17) by designing a poster showing how they benefited from the freedoms embodied in the U.S. Constitution. Entries must be postmarked by October 2, 2020.
- Quizzes: These quizzes include "Constitution IQ," "Which Founding Father Are You?" and more.
Adviser Opportunities
Who knows student journalism better than you? NO ONE. Publications from across the state can learn from your expertise during J-Day when you present a session! Plus, if you do, your $10 adviser registration fee will be waived. :)
Check out the Speaker Proposal Form for details. Think about it--you're probably already recording some cool sessions for your remote students. Sharing is caring!

CSMA Best of Show
Even though J-Day is virtual, the show must go on! If your publication is attending the conference, then you might as well compete in these Best of Show categories. The contest opens Sept. 7 and entries are due Sept. 17 (just like J-Day registration).
Winners? Those will be announced during J-Day!
J-Day Opening Ceremony Video Clips
What better way to prove "We've Got It Covered" than to show off our positivity? Send in a photo or a 5-10 second clip of your staff doing its thing, regardless of how that looks this year. Let's make the most epic montage of 2020. Get those in by Sept. 18, please!
Sister school membership fund
Do you know a school that needs a little help this year? Maybe the program has a new adviser or the budget got hit hard. Thanks to donations from programs that have the ability to help, CSMA maintains a Sister School fund to provide memberships to programs that are struggling.
If you know of a school, encourage them to contact Elise to discuss membership support for this year! Let's keep student journalism strong in 2020!
Thanks for being an important part of our state association
Colorado Student Media Association memberships are by school medium, and we offer four options: print news, yearbook, online, and video media. Why not renew your memberships for 2020-21 today? A single membership is $65. We offer a convenient online membership form, and you can choose either to pay with a school credit card or ask to be invoiced for a check payment.
Many schools choose to have more than one of their student media join our association since all contest fees and critique fees are included in our dues. We offer modest price breaks to those schools, so check that out.
Can't remember if you have renewed or joined? You can always check out the current membership list on our site.
