Welcome Onboard!!!

We are so excited to welcome Dr. Hayes to the Cage family as our new Assistant Principal!!! Dr. Hayes is a 2013 graduate of Louisiana State University, with a doctorate in Educational Leadership. She has years of experience in literacy, school leadership, as well as curriculum and instruction. Some of her duties include managing school discipline, assisting with teacher support and appraisals, serving as Test Co-Coordinator, and ARD Administrator. Please give her a warm welcome when you see her!!!

In her own words:

I am so excited to join the Cage community. Everyone has been so welcoming. I am enjoying meeting the faculty, staff, students, and parents. I look forward to building relationships with our community and helping Cage Elementary continue its record of success. In my free time, I love to read!!! I also enjoy spending time with family, traveling, cooking, and watching movies. I hope to meet all parents and I promise to work hard to help all of Cage Elementary have a safe, successful school year!!!

Open House

If you didn't get a chance to meet your child's teachers during our Meet the Teacher event in August, you will have the opportunity to do so during our Open House. We will be having our Open House from 3:15 to 4:15 pm September 19 - 23 for the following grades:

Monday, September 19, 5th Grade
Tuesday, September 20, Pre-K & Kindergarten
Wednesday, September 21, 1st and 2nd Grades
Thursday, September 22, 3rd and 4th Grades

We are excited for you to see our classrooms with student work. Should you need to meet privately with your child's teacher, you can make appointments on that day.

We will also have devices and support for you to create your HISD Parent Connect account on this day.

Cage Uniform Update

Bottoms: Navy blue bottoms or jean bottoms (No ripped/distressed jeans)

Shirts: Red uniform shirts with the Cage logo are being sold in the front office Monday- Friday from 8 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and then from 1:00-4:00 p.m.

Shirts are $12.00- Cash only.

Additional Dress Code Reminders

Per our Family handbook, the following rules apply to our uniform and dress days:

• Head coverings such as hats and caps may not be worn in the classroom unless approved by the teacher.

• Shorts, skirts, skorts and dresses are to be no more than 2 inches from the center of the knee cap.

• Shorts or leggings must be worn under skirts and dresses.

• All clothing and accessories must be free of profane, suggestive or provocative language and/or symbols, advertisement or promotion of alcohol, tobacco, or drug use, and/or reference to or association with gang activity.

• All clothing must cover entire midriff area, chest, back and top of shoulder area.

• Spaghetti straps or halter tops are not permitted even if covered with a sweater.

• Pants must be worn at the waist.

• Students must not wear clothing that creates a safety hazard by design or by the way it is worn.

• Accessories which are considered a safety hazard to self and/or others are unacceptable.

• Closed shoes must be worn and should be appropriate for school and all school activities. Socks should be worn with all types of footwear. No sandals, cleats, clogs, house, crocs or bedroom slippers or beach thongs are permitted. Tennis shoes with wheels are not allowed.

• Hair should be clean, combed and worn in a style that does not impede vision or distract from instruction. Mohawks, hair-designs, and off-beat, unnatural hair colors are NOT allowed.

• Excessive jewelry is not allowed.

• Acrylic Nails and make-up are not allowed.

• The use of pens/markers to make marks in the skin or clothing deliberately is prohibited.

Upcoming Events/Resources

National Hispanic Heritage Month

Cage Elementary will be honoring National Hispanic Heritage Month September 15 - October 15 with activities in the classroom that include learning about different Hispanic cultures. Students will explore traditional foods, flags, music, dances, customs, and other traditions celebrated in various Hispanic countries. Students will also get the opportunity to participate in a Native Country Dress-Up Day on October 12, 2022.
