Dear GLOBE families,
Monday's Board of Directors meeting included an update on the progress of The GLOBE Academy’s new home for kindergarten through fifth grades, located at the corner of North Druid Hills and Clairmont Roads.
As reported in our previous update, the demolition phase of the existing two buildings was completed in September, and since that time, crews have been busy working on the construction phase.
Current timeline for completion
We are tracking an on-time move-in for all buildings to begin in June 2025 to be able to start school in August. Renovations and final inspections at Milligan Hall and Family Life Center are currently scheduled to be completed in May 2025, closely followed by the modular buildings and any remaining site work in June 2025.
Possible setbacks
The level of progress is encouraging, however, GLOBE has experienced many delays from the county in the issuance of permits which are negatively impacting our total project costs. Additionally, DeKalb County has received an appeal to our variance for Azalea Circle. A decision to not grant the variance could require us to upgrade the frontages along Azalea Circle (put in sidewalks, street lights, etc.). We are already updating all frontages along Clairmont Road per county demands.
Next steps
Continue with construction/renovation of the two existing buildings, and begin the site work needed to emplace the modular buildings.
We look forward to sharing more updates in the new year as construction continues to take shape. In the meantime, we are delighted to share these wonderful 3D renderings of the new campus by our partners Freespace Architecture, providing a vision of the interiors and exterior spaces at the new campus (final exterior painting will likely change since we still need to determine if painting all exteriors will be feasible with our budget).
