MEA Heights Magazine Submissions
Hello, young artists at MEA. If you are looking to publish your work in a magazine, this is the place for you. Heights is MEA's literary magazine that offers a platform for young artists to amplify their voices and share their work. We are accepting submissions of original work for our spring issue now. There is no theme this year, so feel free to submit written, digital, and artistic work about anything. Just something to keep in mind, people of all ages will have access to each issue, and though we want people's content to be true to their original intent, we do ask that you keep in mind the level of maturity of your work so all readers can appreciate it! Heights is a magazine that publishes lots of mediums, so feel free to submit your photography, sketches, paintings (pictures of them), and any other visual medium! Your work will featured in our issues on the Heights website.
The submission deadline is May 6th! Please submit your works here.
Thank you and Happy Writing!
Upcoming Events
Create and Connect
Join parent Sarah Aghajanian and create a weaving project to hang on your wall and beautify any space. Try your hand at this relaxing and therapeutic art form using a simple cardboard loom. This event will be held on May 14, 15, and 16 from 12-12:30 at the tables in front of the elementary classrooms. All ages are welcome, though parent assistance is required for kindergarten and first graders.
This event is co-sponsored by MEA’s wellness committee in our continuing efforts to “create and connect” or “gather and grow” off a device or screen.

Lost a Pet this School Year?
Sadly, many students and staff members have lost a beloved pet this year, including the loss of our school chicken, Zira. We have a little extra space to fill in the yearbook, so we thought we’d create an “In Loving Memory” photo collage of lost pets. If you are one of the unfortunate pet owners and would like to submit a photo of your pet, please upload one photo, titled with your pet’s name, to this folder: Lost Pets Photos by Wednesday, 4/24.
IMPORTANT: Personalized Custom Pages
It’s time to complete those personalized custom pages!
One customizable two-page spread is included with each yearbook purchase.
Don’t want to add your own photos to your custom pages?
Try adding the title of AUTOGRAPHS or SIGNATURES to your blank pages instead.

Academics
Leader in Me - Habit 8
For month 9, our school's focus is the 8th Habit: Find Your Voice and inspire others to find theirs. It is about fulfillment, passionate execution and significant contribution.
Voice is our unique personal significance which lies at the nexus of talent (natural gifts and strength), passion (things that naturally energizes, excites, motivates and inspires us), need (including what the world needs enough to pay us for), and conscience (that still, small voice within that assures us of what is right and prompts us to do it).
When we engage in work that taps our talent and fuels our passion – that rises out of a great need in the world that we feel drawn by conscience to meet – therein lies our voice, our calling, our soul’s code. - Stephen R. Covey

Terry Virts: How to Astronaut
Changemaker Speaker Series presented by La Jolla Music Society
Terry Virts retired from the space program after having achieved nearly everything he ever dreamed possible, including serving in the US Air Force as an F-16 fighter and test pilot, piloting the Space Shuttle Endeavour, serving as Commander for the International Space Station, and conducting three spacewalks during a 200-day mission in 2014 and 2015.
During his seven months in space, Terry led a multi-national team that included Russian cosmonauts and American and Italian astronauts, during some of the tensest relations with Russia since the Cold War, and through three onboard accidents that resulted in an extended stay in space. While there, he took more than 300,000 photographs and hours of video—the most of any space mission before or since. These images form the backbone of the IMAX film A Beautiful Planet, featuring Terry and narrated by Jennifer Lawrence. National Geographic published View from Above, a book featuring some of his best images alongside his reflections on spaceflight, stewardship of life on earth, and our place in the cosmos.
