BCHS Jag PRIDE Newsletter
September 2024
End of the Quarter, Fall Break, and a Second Quarter Growth Mindset!
BCHS Families,
Time is flying. August and September brought so many opportunities, new learning, and warm Arizona weather! As we look to cooler temperatures (hopefully) and the second quarter, it's time for our Jaguars to reset and reflect so they can keep learning and growing! Parent-teacher conferences are coming up on Thursday, October 17th and are the perfect time to collaborate with the teacher on your students learning. I always recommend bringing your student to meet with the teacher to be able to be apart of the conversation so they can speak to their learning and their needs. This allows for the incredibly important partnership between student, parent, and teacher to happen! It truly takes a village! See more information about Parent-teacher conferences below.
And I want to remind everyone that Election Day is swiftly approaching. DVUSD has two measures on the ballot that are so important for our community to understand. Please be sure to check out https://www.dvusd.org/election regarding facts about the M&O Override and Bond election questions. The most important part of the election is to get to the polls and VOTE!
The collaboration and partnership of community, family, and schools are truly like no other. I am so excited to continue into the second quarter with your students as we celebrate all things BC with our Homecoming Week October 21st through 25th with our Parade, Assembly, and Football Game on the 25th and our Dance on Saturday the 26th! It is truly a great time to be a Jaguar and to show that incredible PRIDE!

The Class of 2025 Sets their Senior Year in Motion with their Senior Sunrise
On September 20th, the Class of 2025 met early on the BC Stadium Field to celebrate their official Senior Sunrise. It was a beautiful sky where Jaguars came together to enjoy togetherness as their senior year is in motion! As graduation approaches this May, seniors will come together again at dusk for their Senior Sunset. It is a beautiful BC tradition! We are so proud of the Class of 2025 and are excited to see their continued leadership this year!

In September, we had the goal of being disciplined by putting distracting technology away. Because our Jaguars focused together, we reduced technology minor infractions by 52% in September as compared to August! This is AMAZING! And because our Jaguars were more focused on learning, failing grades also reduced by 22% as compared to August! Keep the discipline up, Jags! Awesome job!
October Goal: Foster a respectful and productive school environment by reducing incidents of disrespect and disruption by 10% within the month of October. How can we do this? We can show our P.R.I.D.E qualities while at school, Prepared for school, Respectful to our teachers, students and facilities, Integrity within our relationships and school work and Disciplined in our work and Everyone united by helping each other be better.
We can do this Jags!

Boys and girls cross country are off to a strong start. The boys have won their first three invitationals and the girls have two wins and a runner up. Both teams have great pack times (time between the five scoring runners). Students Get Support During Flex Time on Wednesdays & Thursdays
Flex Time Intervention sessions provide time for students to receive support every Wednesday and Thursday during the instructional day. The purpose of this time is to allow a struggling student some extra time in a smaller group setting to learn the skills they may be struggling with during class time. There are also opportunities for students to enrich their learning if they are doing well in all of their classes.
Each week, a student may be assigned to a specific skill-based Flex Time session by one of their teachers. Our students’ academic success is important; therefore, it is an expectation that students attend the Flex session they are assigned to by their teacher. If a student is not assigned to a session, they may select a session for academic support, time to complete schoolwork, or to extend their learning in a class.
Flex time is academic time built into the regular school day for students to participate in sessions such as:
● Interventions and tutoring on specific skills
● Extension and enrichment
● Skill assessment and reassessment
● Life skills/college and career readiness
● Open academic sessions
Flex Time can help students achieve academic success in the following ways:
● Increased understanding of the concepts taught in your classes.
● A time to catch up in classes you were absent for.
● Opportunity to participate in extension or enrichment activities to expand learning.
● Grade improvement.
● Improved performance on tests such as AP, SAT, ACT.
● Opportunity to increase your college and career readiness.
● Overall increase in academic achievement.
BCHS Flex Time provides a great opportunity for students to get extra support to increase academic achievement and success, and to help prepare them for the future. Please visit the Boulder Creek High School website for the Flex Bell Schedule.

Show that Jaguar P.R.I.D.E!
BC Jaguar PRIDE means that our Jaguars are Prepared, Respectful, have Integrity, are Disciplined, and show that Everyone is united! To ensure a safe, focused, and positive learning environment, we PRIDE expectations with students on Thursday in second period.
- This includes our expectation that students keep their cellphones on silent mode in their backpack so students can properly engage in learning.
- Students should be prepared with a fully charged iPad each day and any other items required for class to help with their success.
- It is also critical that students are in class and on time to be present for learning which is critical for their success.
- We also expect our students to be respectful of classrooms, school and personal property each and every day.
Please review our BCHS PRIDE expectations in our Student/Parent Handbook . Taking time to show Jaguar PRIDE is important as we work toward our mission of providing “a safe learning environment with rigorous academic opportunities for all students to graduate as productive, responsible, and contributing citizens!”
