Take Our Kids to Work Day
On Wednesday, November 6, our grade 9 students will be participating in Take Our Kids to Work Day. Take Our Kids to Work Day offers families a great chance to connect with their kids, talk about potential career aspirations, learning about the goals, hopes, dreams and possibilities their student envisions for their future.
The goal of Take Our Kids to Work Day is to introduce students to the world of work and to help them begin thinking about their future careers. By engaging in this hands-on experience, students can connect what they learn in school with the real-world skills and competencies required in various jobs.
What career is of interest to your child?
We encourage parents and caregivers to arrange for their student to join them at their workplace, or connect them with a relative, neighbor, or friend who can provide a safe and educational experience. If your student is unable to participate through family connections, students should attend their regularly scheduled school day to participate in one of the many career exploration activities EIPS has prepared.

School Fees Due October 30
School fee information for the 2024-25 school year is now posted on the PowerSchool Parent Portal. All fees are due within 30 days of being posted. To access your fee information, simply log in to the PowerSchool Parent Portal and go to “Student Fees.” There you can view your fees and pay them online. If you’re unable to pay your school fees, you can apply to have certain fees waived. The application deadline is Dec. 16, 2024.
NOTE: Don’t forget to also log in to the PowerSchool Parent Portal regularly throughout the year. Fees are often added to your child’s account to cover the cost of various school activities such as field trips, class projects, extracurricular activities fees and more.
For more information, alternatively, contact Karen Bidniak, Business Manager, at F.R. Haythorne, at 780-467-3800.
Bottle Drive
The grade 9 students who will be traveling to Quebec will be holding a bottle drive on Monday, November 4th, from 5 - 8 p.m. We will have a trailer set up in the school parking lot and will have students out in the community asking for bottle donations to help offset the cost of their trip. If you have donations that you need picked up, please email Mrs. Getschel (crystal.getschel@eips.ca).
Brightspace
As we progress through the school year, we want to remind everyone about Brightspace, an essential tool that can help you stay informed about your child's classes.
Brightspace is the online learning platform where students can access and submit assignments, track deadlines and review any missed work. Login regularly to see what is on the horizon and support your child in staying on top of their work if they are absent or missing for various reasons.
Our staff ensures that Brightspace is updated, and students at F.R. Haythorne use this platform regularly. If you are unsure of how to navigate this, ask them to login and show you!
To access Brightspace, please visit Brightspace Parents & Guardians at the bottom of the eips.ca website. If you require assistance in accessing this platform, please look at the attached document which clearly describes the set-up and logging in process, as well as all the features available to you under your child’s or children’s Student Dashboard.

Staying engaged with Brightspace will help you support your child’s learning journey and ensure they stay on track with their studies!
Thank you for your continued partnership in your child's education.
After School Pick-Up
Student Transportation has busses that leave with students prior to the end of our school day. These busses use our parking lot and they have requested that we do not use this space for parent pick-up of students.

The grade 9 FSL class is currently looking for donations for the silent auction. If you would be willing donate an item, please contact Mrs. Getschel by email (crystal.getschel@eips.ca).

HTV 8 EPISODE 2
Nut-Aware School
To protect students with nut allergies, we ask all families to refrain from sending any foods that contain nuts to school.
Nut allergies can pose serious health risks, and we want to minimize the chance of exposure for those students affected. By working together, we can create a safer environment for everyone.
What can you do?
- Please check ingredient labels carefully before sending food to school.
- Encourage your child to choose nut-free snacks and meals.
- Discuss the importance of this with your child to help them understand.
We appreciate your cooperation and support in keeping our school community safe. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out.
Closed Campus
We would like to remind our students and school community that FRH is a closed campus. Students may only leave school grounds during lunch if Parents/Guardians have contacted the Office Staff and pre-arranged permission for their child to go home to eat. Our expectation is that they will go to their own home and not stop at any other locations, such as Strathcona Athletic Park or 7-11. Your child must sign out at the office window every day before they leave, and sign back in when they return. This will help us keep an accurate record of the students in our care on a daily basis.
Please ensure that you have a discussion with your child about returning on-time for afternoon classes.
We thank you for your assistance in emphasizing the importance of this information with your child.
