Next week is National School Counseling Week, and I want to take a moment to recognize and celebrate the incredible contributions of our school counselors, Rika and Keisha. Their unwavering dedication to the academic, personal, and social development of our students is truly inspiring.

Rika and Keisha consistently go above and beyond to provide guidance, support, and mentorship, fostering a positive and nurturing environment where our students can thrive. Their passion for education and their genuine care for the well-being of every student shine through in all they do. We are so fortunate to have these exceptional individuals as part of our SOAR family!

Important Reminders:

• AVC’s Spring Term: Classes begin next week. If students need textbooks or materials for their courses, please check Google Classroom for information on pickup times.

• Spring Back to School Night: On Friday, February 7th, we’re hosting our annual Creative Minds’ Night on both campuses from 5:00 - 6:30 PM. This is a fantastic opportunity to see our STARS shine and celebrate their creativity and achievements!

• Minimum Day: Friday, February 7th is a minimum day. Students will be released at 1:40 PM.

• Holiday Weekend: Please note there is a four-day holiday weekend from February 14th to 17th. Both SOAR and AVC will be closed during this time, and all classes will resume on Tuesday, February 18th.

• “Monday” Friday: As a result of the holiday, Friday, February 21st will follow a Monday/Wednesday schedule, with classes starting at 8:30 AM.

SOAR High School has been recognized on the State of California Leaderboard for our FAFSA/CADAA completion statistics. This achievement reflects our collective commitment to ensuring that every student has access to valuable financial aid opportunities for their higher education journey.

As of today, 72% of our students who have submitted their FAFSA or CADAA applications have already received preliminary Cal Grant Awards. This is a testament to the hard work of our students, families, and counseling team. Congratulations to all who have taken this important step!

To support all of our students in accessing these opportunities, our counseling team will begin reaching out next week to parents of students who have not yet completed their FAFSA or CADAA applications. We are here to provide guidance and answer any questions you may have.

As we kick off the new year, we remain committed to fostering the personal growth and development of our students by emphasizing key character traits that align with our mission and vision. For the months of January and February, our focus is on PERSEVERANCE, followed by INTEGRITY in March.

This month and next, we’re focusing on cultivating perseverance in our students. Perseverance is more than just working hard—it’s about showing resilience in the face of challenges, learning from setbacks, and developing the confidence to keep moving forward. By building tenacity and personal agency, students can strengthen their ability to overcome obstacles with determination.
