Sixth Grade Students Embark on Bud, Not Buddy's Journey of Resilience
Students in ELA 6 are enthusiastically wrapping up the first novel of Module 1 in Wit & Wisdom, Bud, Not Buddy. Throughout this module, students have been captivated by the story of Bud, a resourceful and determined young boy living during the Great Depression. As an orphan, Bud faces numerous challenges on his journey to find his father, guided by clues left behind by his late mother.
Students have explored powerful themes and learned meaningful vocabulary, including terms like undergo, cope, and endure. They’ve eagerly followed Bud’s journey, analyzing how his experiences transform him from a boy searching for answers to someone who discovers a sense of belonging. By the end of the story, Bud connects with his maternal grandfather, a renowned musician, and finds the security he has been longing for since his mother’s passing. The text has sparked excitement and deep engagement, with students immersed in Bud’s world and inspired by his resilience.
Klinger Eighth Graders take on the National Constitution Center
On our recent field trip to the National Constitution Center in historic Philadelphia, eighth graders from Klinger Middle School had the chance to dive deeper into what they have learned about the U.S. Constitution. Guided by our chaperones, the students explored the museum through an engaging scavenger hunt, allowing them to actively discover important facts and historical events.
One of the highlights of the trip was the opportunity to interact with full-size bronze statues of the nation's founding fathers. In Signers' Hall, students were even able to sign the Constitution themselves, making them feel part of history. The museum also offered a variety of hands-on experiences, such as taking the presidential oath of office, trying on judges' robes, and analyzing famous Supreme Court cases.
In addition to these interactive exhibits, the students were surprised to learn fun facts, like the existence of a basketball court and bowling lanes in government buildings. A special treat was the chance to converse with historical figures such as Ben Franklin, William Penn, and others, bringing history to life in an unforgettable way.
The trip was both educational and fun, and it has left us all feeling prepared for our upcoming civics exam, with a much stronger understanding of our rights and the U.S. government.
Kindergarten Foundational Skills
In Ms. Mahaffey’s kindergarten class, students are thriving as they develop their letter-sound knowledge. With a mix of engaging activities and a lively classroom atmosphere, these young learners are mastering foundational skills that will set them up for reading success.
The kindergartners engage in early literacy sing-alongs to isolate beginning sounds and proceed through multiple activities that provide opportunities to practice matching letters (graphemes) to sounds (phonemes) as they learn to read words and vice versa, matching sounds (phonemes) to letters (graphemes) as they learn to spell words.
The students approach each task with enthusiasm and focus. The positive energy in the room proves that Fundations lessons truly bring "fun" to Centennial students. Under Miss Mahaffey’s expert guidance, these kindergarteners are building their skills and confidence one sound at a time, laying the groundwork for a bright literacy future.

Friendsgiving at Klinger
A classroom at Klinger celebrated Thanksgiving by putting on a Friendsgiving. Students prepped, cooked, and enjoyed traditional Thanksgiving food and desserts. Students cut and mashed potatoes, cooked up some rolls, fluffed the stuffing, and even roasted a turkey. Students got to enjoy pumpkin pie, cookies, cake, and fun Thanksgiving-themed treats. Students all sat together to enjoy a meal as a class family. All the students enjoyed laughing, smiling, and sharing what they were thankful for. This Friendsgiving was a great way for the students to start the season of giving and love.

CENTENNIAL EDUCATION FOUNDATION
Dear Friends of Centennial Education Foundation,
Take a Bite out of Hunger!
Help CEF support the community of Centennial School District by raising funds for food.
Each day, there are families in our district that face the challenge of putting food on the table. Some may only eat one meal a day. According to the USDA, the average cost today of a home-cooked spaghetti dinner for a family of four is between $16-$20.
Admirably, the School District provides a way to help those in need of food through the Farmers Market at Klinger and the Food Pantry at McDonald, but they can't do it without YOUR help! The response from our supporters has been overwhelmingly heartfelt, and this Giving Tuesday we want to continue with the goal of helping to feed those that need it.
Because the need for food still exists, we are hopeful that, with your help, we can stock the shelves for the winter months. Please donate today. 100% of all funds raised will go to the Farmer's Market and Food Pantry.
Help us reach our goal of $3,000 to support this very important cause.
