Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We’ve had an exciting week as we gear up for the Thanksgiving weekend. Across all grades, students have been engaging in thoughtful lessons in language arts and social studies, exploring themes of Thanksgiving and gratitude. It’s been wonderful to witness their deep reflections on what matters most to them, and how they’ve used their writing and critical thinking skills to share those ideas with their peers.
Our annual Turkey Trot was a fantastic event, filled with fun and school spirit. We had quite a few "turkeys" running around today! Congratulations to our turkey costume contest winners, Emily, Olive, Madison, Cammee, Bridget, Katherine, Reegan, Alice, Riley, Edwin, Ruby, Nathaniel, Tanner, and Mr. K, as well as the lucky gift card recipients, Reegan, Konnor, Olive, Alyssa, Riley, and Fallen from the random draws. After the trot, students enjoyed a slice of pie together, marking the beginning of our Thanksgiving celebrations.
Best of luck to our Girls’ B Volleyball team as they head to the B Girls’ Tournament at Grand Trunk on Saturday! We’re all rooting for you!
A big thank you to Colleen and Christina for bringing in lunch for the staff and covering supervision for us! It was an incredible treat for World Teachers' Day/ the Friday before Thanksgiving! Thank you so much!
Wishing everyone a safe, joyful, and family-filled Thanksgiving weekend.
Have a wonderful long weekend,
Bailey Benson

Learning in Action
Recycling
The 4/5 class has taken on the important responsibility of managing the school’s paper and cardboard recycling. Students work together to collect materials from classrooms and offices, sorting and organizing them for proper recycling. This hands-on task not only helps the environment but also teaches the students about sustainability, teamwork, and the positive impact of reducing waste. Their dedication is helping keep our school eco-friendly!

Baby Braxton: Roots of Empathy
Roots of Empathy is a program designed to foster emotional intelligence and help students develop a deeper understanding of empathy. With the support of Yellowhead County, the program has been a valuable resource for years, and this year, we're fortunate to welcome a wonderful family to our K/1 class. The students are getting to know Baby Braxton, observing his developmental milestones, learning how he expresses emotions, and exploring the reasons behind those emotions. Their first meeting with him was a heartwarming experience, enjoyed by everyone involved.
Leaf Imprints
The grade 8/9 students are exploring a creative art project where they use nature as their inspiration. Collecting leaves of various shapes and sizes, they apply paint to the leaves and press them onto their canvases to create vibrant prints. This project allows students to experiment with texture, color, and pattern, merging natural elements with artistic expression to produce unique and visually striking pieces.
Grapefruit Test
The K/1 students had a fun and memorable experience trying grapefruit for the first time! As they each took a bite, the room filled with giggles and wide-eyed expressions, with some students scrunching their faces at the sour taste while others were pleasantly surprised. A few students discovered they liked the tart flavor, while others weren’t so sure, but everyone had a great time sharing their funny reactions. It was a tasty adventure for all!
Fire Prevention Week
Alex, along with Candice and Corrine from Yellowhead County, visited our school to present an engaging session on fire prevention and fire safety. They shared essential tips on how to prevent fires, the importance of having a safety plan, and what to do in case of an emergency. The students were captivated by their knowledge and enthusiasm, leaving with a stronger understanding of how to stay safe and protect their homes and families from fire hazards.
Pumpkin Pie!
The K/1 class had a fun and tasty experience making pumpkin tarts together! Following a simple recipe, the students measured, mixed, and scooped the ingredients with excitement. They were joined by some helpful 4/5 students, who guided them through the steps and assisted with tasks like measuring and filling the tart shells. It was a wonderful teamwork activity, and the delicious pumpkin tarts they created were a sweet reward for everyone's hard work!
Knight Awards
We had an overwhelming number of incredible students nominated for our Knight Award this week—so many that we couldn't fit them all in one picture! A huge thank you to all of our amazing students for consistently demonstrating perseverance, respect, and responsibility. Whether it was helping a teacher clean up, assisting classmates with math, pushing through challenges to learn something new, or volunteering to set up the gym at another school without being asked, your efforts do not go unnoticed. We are truly grateful for everything you do! Way to go Knights!
"Strength and growth come only through continuous effort and struggle." ~ Napoleon Hill
Our Knight Awards theme for the month is to Grow! A few things we look for, promote, and model for our students,
- Perseverance: Continuing to work hard and not giving up, even when faced with challenges or setbacks.
Respect: Valuing others’ opinions, treating people kindly, and following school rules and expectations.
- Curiosity: Showing a desire to learn more, asking questions, and exploring new ideas beyond what is taught.
- Responsibility: Taking ownership of actions, being accountable for schoolwork, and managing time and tasks effectively.
- Empathy: Understanding and caring about others’ feelings, and supporting peers in a compassionate way.
Volunteers
We are grateful for all of the volunteers we have in our school and hope that you continue to volunteer in this year. We have many programs like reading buddies, hot lunch, sports concession, field trips, and more which are able to run because of volunteers!
If you plan to volunteer for more than ten hours over the course of the school year, you will need to ensure you have a criminal record check with vulnerable sector, Forms AP 401 and AP 402 on file at the school. Criminal record checks are good for two years, the forms need to be completed annually. If you are unsure when your record check expires, you can contact the office and we would be happy to let you know. The forms have been attached and are available in the office.
