Benson's Oregon Battle of the Books Wins State Title
Congratulations to Olivia Barzoloski, Sarinem Kasanmoesdiran Mejias,
Zahra Faruqui, and Zayd Faruqui who became Benson’s Oregon Battle Of the Books State Champions this weekend. After making their way through a challenging field of competition, and answering the most obscure detailed question from 12 books. Such as “What was the exact balance of a specific character's bank account?” They emerged victorious over Lakeridge High School. The competition concluded with an unprecedented four tiebreakers to clinch the 2024 state high school title. I’m incredibly proud of their hard work, determination, and the positive representation they brought to the competition as Benson Polytechnic High School students.

A Message from Benson's Construction Instructor Luke Hotchkiss
The Construction Department is going to be a must see for Tech Show this week! Students have built a COB pizza oven where we will be cranking out as many pies as we can. And for the first time in a long time students have insulated the Tiny House and are hanging drywall and doing the mud + tape. Demos at Tech Show. Students have made photo portfolios of their work from the entire year to display, and of course we have end grain cutting boards galore for sale, plus Benson Gear Coasters customizable with your name! Hope to see you then. Most recent photos here.

Benson Tech Seniors at the Trailblazer Game This Past Friday
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Seniors were invited to the Trail Blazers vs. Houston Rockets on Friday, April 12. Tickets were donated by the Blazers, and 61 seniors and parent volunteers attended. We dined on pizza @ the original campus, took some pictures in front of the construction site, and walked over to the Moda Center. What a gift! Students were both respectful and gracious.
Senior Parents will be at the Tech Show promoting senior class fundraising for prom (April 27) and the senior BBQ/celebration (May 31). Thanks for any and all donations! We are hoping to make their experience POP and SHINE this spring!

An Important Message from PPS Regarding Yellow Bus Transportation for the 2024-25 School Year
Dear Benson Tech Community,
As we look ahead to the upcoming school year I wanted to reach out before the school's transition back to the newly remodeled Benson Tech. I wanted to remind the Benson Tech Community early that next year, with school being back at the new Benson Tech building that PPS will be discontinuing the yellow bus transportation services for students in accordance with ODE guidelines. All students will continue to be provided HOP passes in order to utilize Tri-Met as needed.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to reach out to our PPS Transportation offices.

Body Positive Shops in Portland
All students are invited to utilize two local body-positive, LGBTQIA2S+-friendly, super unique resale shops in PDX. In addition, if you go with your current PPS student ID, they will give 10% off. They also would love to help you explore your style and have fun with you while you do it. Whether it's formal wear for prom, or simply exploring your style, these shop owners are EXCITED to support all students. Please Note: I Want Seconds has sizes up to 6XL, and Hello Sunshine also has a plus-size section. Both stores celebrate gender fluid humans from traditional to eclectic styles.

Important Attendance Information and Updates
District policy states that students have 3 school days to resolve absences.
Transportation via Portland Public Schools (school bus) are excused tardies.
If the student doesn't let the attendance office know that this is why they are tardy, there is no way to know. The office does not track who is on what bus or whether they are present.
There is a code for Late Bus (LBS) which can be marked to excuse that type of tardy.
Tardies for emergency situations in getting to school (vehicle malfunctions, police action and other types of emergencies) may also be excused but again, the office will need to be made aware of these,
Tardies due to missing a bus, getting up late, etc. are not excused tardies.
Students calling in / emailing their own attendance absences / late / tardies / etc will NOT be considered excused absences.
Excused absences will be noted accordingly from parents / guardians and/or students over 18 years of age.
To reach attendance, you can call 503-916-5100 X86271 and/or email bensonattend@pps.net
