Senior Checklist
Fall
_____ If you have not set up a CollegeBoard Account yet and conducted a college search or scheduled your SAT test, go to CollegBoard and do so NOW!
_____ Keep your grades up Senior year. You still have to PASS to graduate. So make sure you're doing your homework, even if you have applications and college essays to complete.
_____ Find out if the colleges you are applying to require an entrance essay. If they do, start working on it. Ask your English teacher for help with suggestions and editing. Do not wait until the last minute.
_____ Continue to compete in contests, sports, and academic challenges. Earn honors and awards to build your student resume and brag sheet.
_____ Complete college applications through Common Application or Apply Texas .
_____ Log into Naviance through Clever and explore career and college options and insights.
_____ Start gathering the paperwork you need to complete your college financial aid application. Go to studentaid.gov for information on what you will need.
_____ Complete your online financial application for student aid through FAFSA. Applications open on October 1st.!!
_____ Talk to your counselor to ensure you're on track to graduate and meet college admissions requirements..
_____ Schedule college visits with the colleges and universities that you are considering.
_____ Participate in the College Fair on 11/17/2021. Information on registration is coming soon!
_____ Keep a calendar, schedule or agenda for all the upcoming deadlines such as college application dates, college visits, scholarship application dates, etc..
_____ Cafe College provides information, technology resources, and test preparation courses to better prepare students to enter college. Check out the resources they have available.
_____ Ask for TRANSCRIPTS and other important documents way before the deadline! Click here to order your BISD transcript.
_____ Consider College Entrance Exam prep programs. Cafe College has pulled together a list and links to free prep programs.
_____ If you want to play collegiate sports, take the steps necessary to increase your eligibility. Excel in school and your sport! Register with the NCAA Eligibility Center.
_____ If you haven't done so, register and take college entrance exams such as the SAT, SAT Subject Tests, and ACT. Register for SAT at CollegeBoard. Register for ACT at ACT.org. Talk to your counselor to see if you qualify for a SAT or ACT fee waiver!!!

Spring: January - March
_____ Keep a calendar, schedule, or agenda for all the upcoming deadlines.
_____ Take the TSI. Contact Mrs. Jones at sjones@banderaisd2.net for information about when TSI testing will be on campus.
_____ Consider college prep classes if you do not score well on the TSI.
_____ Minimize the amount of loan funds you borrow by applying for scholarships and grants!
_____ Attend financial aid nights offered at your school and community.
_____ If you're taking an AP class, study and TAKE THE AP EXAM!
_____ Make sure you have a copy of your Bacterial Meningitis Vaccine (must provide proof to college/university)
_____ Request letters of recommendations early!!
Letter of Recommendation: Things to Do...
- Think ahead! Ask for letters of recommendations way before the deadline (3-4 weeks). Do not expect them overnight or within a few days. Plan ahead.
- Help the person you are asking for a recommendation (counselor, teacher, coach, community member, etc.) by filling out this brag sheet and giving it to them.
- Provide a High School Resume. Check out this link to help you create your own resume.
- Send thank you cards to the people who wrote you recommendations. (It is a nice gesture and should not be a text, or email!)
Spring: April - June
_____ Graduate!
_____ Review your college acceptances and compare the colleges' financial aid packages.
_____ Decide which school you want to attend. Notify the school of your choice and submit any required financial deposit. Many schools require notification/deposit by May 1.
_____ Make all of your deposits on time: tuition, housing, etc.
_____ Request final and official transcript to be sent to your college/university of choice. Click here to order your BISD transcript. If you took dual credit, request your college transcript from San Antonio College.
_____ Make sure verification documents for FAFSA are submitted.
_____ Submit all FAFSA required documents, loans, work study, other worksheets.
