Prosper Guard Update:
August 18th - 24th
Hello Prosper Guard Family!
Meet the Eagles was an awesome first performance for our Prosper Band and Guard! We were able to celebrate the beginning of the fall season, as well as our Seniors. We are super proud of how well the guard and band performed - this season is going to be something special.
There is a lot of information in this update, as well as the Band News. We ask that parents and students make sure that they read through all of the communication provided, and if you have any questions, please reach out to any of the directors for more clarification.
Parents: tomorrow is the chaperone meeting for all parents planning to chaperone for events this school year. Please check the Band News for time & location.
What to expect during this semester:
- Pass-Offs: our weekly assignments are called "Pass-Offs" and student submit video assignments to Google Classroom, for a grade. Students will be expected to complete these assignments to receive a grade in their corresponding color guard class.
- Performances = Test Grades: Students are required to attend all rehearsals and performances. Color Guard/Winter Guard are co-curricular classes. That means that our students are required to attend scheduled events outside of the school day. We utilize performances as test/major grades for our course.
- Expectations for Daily Class: Students will need to dress out in rehearsal clothes (in dress code) and their sneakers for class. Each student has an assigned locker in the band hall that can house their personal items while in class. Students will need their flag bag and equipment for class and will be responsible for transporting it to & from school and rehearsals (unless we can load them on a truck - when that option is available, we will take advantage of transporting equipment).
- Grade Check: At the six-week mark, students are assessed for academic eligibility. All of our students must be passing their classes with a 70 or above (50 or above for Honors & AP courses) to be eligible. If a student is not eligible, they have a week to recover their grade. After that week, if their grade has not moved to the minimum requirement, they will be ineligible to perform at football games and competitions. Parents, we need your help in making sure that your student is turning their assignments in on time, that they are getting help from their teachers - when needed, and that you are checking their Skyward at the end of every week, to make sure they are maintaining eligibility.
I might sound like a broken record on this, but passing our classes is the most important part of high school, and I will continue to remind our Prosper Guard Family to check your grades and make sure that you are eligible! If at any time tutoring or assistance is needed, please reach out to your student's teacher(s). We can also put together a list of band and guard students that can be great resources for peer-tutoring. There is at least one student in the band that has taken all of the classes you are enrolled in, maybe even with the same teacher, so we will have a list for you to access soon!
The most important thing for our students to remember is that if you are struggling in a class, you are not alone. You have a ton of people that want to help you be successful! Please don't ignore your assignments and when something goes wrong. The only way to deal with something that might not go the right way is to face it head-on with your support system: parents, teachers, and peers. Mistakes happen. Sometimes you don't get the grade you want. Let's find solutions to help make sure you are successful! - Rehearsals: Please continue to check the Prosper Band Google Calendar and Band News for the most updated schedule and location for rehearsals (and performances)
- "Marching Band": During the fall semester, color guard is a part of the Marching Band. Anytime you see information or announcements about the "Mighty Eagle Band," "Prosper Band and Guard," or "Marching Band" tune into what the announcement is, because it most likely will have information that pertains to color guard students, too.
- Pep Rallies: We do participate in Pep Rallies and will update students once we have a plan for performances.
- ... and so much more! We will continue to update with more information as we have plans worked out!
Thank you!
Ms. K
