Extra Clothing - A Note From Our Nurses
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Weather in Massachusetts is unpredictable. It can be frigid one day and warm the next. There can be snow one day followed by rain and mud. Please check the weather prior to arriving at school and send your student to school with weather appropriate clothing, outerwear and footwear.
Extra set of clothes for children to be kept in their locker
Please send in an extra set of clothes for your student to be kept in their locker or cubby, regardless of their grade. This will allow them to change from clothes that might have become wet, muddy or spilled something on so they can stay comfortable and ready to learn. Please include socks in this set of clothing, as these are frequently requested items they need replaced.
Thank you,
Nurse Valerie and Nurse Michelle
Spring Cleaning - Lost & Found
We’re doing some spring cleaning! Please check if your student has any items in the lost and found. All unclaimed items will be donated after school on Friday, April 4th.

2025-2026 Class Placement Process
We will begin the class placement process for the 2025-2026 school year in April. This is a thorough and thoughtful process that takes into account each child’s academic, social, and behavioral needs. Our entire Bresnahan staff collaborates to ensure students are placed in an environment where they can thrive and have a successful school experience.
Due to the large number of students in our building, we are unable to accept placement requests. We appreciate your understanding and trust in this process as we work to create the best learning environments for all students. Thank you for your support!
“Away for the Day” Technology Policy
As a school, we are committed to fostering an engaging and distraction-free learning environment. To support this goal, we follow an "Away for the Day" policy regarding personal technology, including cell phones and smartwatches.
We kindly ask that students refrain from bringing smartwatches that can send and receive text messages to school. Texting during the school day is not permitted, and any smartwatch brought to school must remain in their locker until dismissal. Parents and guardians are also encouraged to disable messaging on smartwatches during school hours.
Thank you for your support and cooperation to this matter.

Volunteer Requirements
CORI Process
- All volunteers must have an up-to-date CORI on file with the Newburyport Elementary Schools.
- Bring the completed CORI form along with your driver's license to the Administrative Assistant at our school office.
- Please note CORI's are only valid for three years; after that you must reapply.
Fingerprinting
In keeping with Newburyport's continued focus on safety, volunteers/parents are required to be fingerprinted in two instances:
- If you are going on a day or overnight field trip and will have direct and unmonitored contact with children;
- If you are a lunchroom volunteer and will be bringing children out to the playground. Parents who volunteer in the classroom DO NOT need to be fingerprinted, if there will always be another adult present.
Massachusetts has contracted with MorphoTrust for fingerprinting. To book an appointment, visit the Massachusetts IdentoGO Website.
Please be aware there is a $35 fee for fingerprinting. Fingerprinting does not expire.

THE 2025 CLIPPER READATHON: HELP US CROSS THE FINISH LINE!
We are over halfway through the Readathon. A big round of applause to all our kids who have been reading so diligently! Together they have read an impressive 91,874 minutes and counting! Keep going!
We want to give another huge round of applause to Renee Ames, our beloved librarian. She hosted a whopping 34 campouts in our school library last week!!! Every child at the Bresnahan had a chance to participate. Thank you also to our parent volunteers who helped at the campouts and/or loaned pop-up tents.
We are at 60% of our fundraising goal with 5 days left of the Readathon. We need your help to cross the finish line!! Thank you to all the parents and caregivers who have shared their child’s page or made pledges. Every little bit counts! The readathon is the PTO’s largest fundraiser. 100% of donations go straight back to our students through enrichment programs, assemblies, field trip transportation, funding proposals, and events like the Fall Festival, 100 Day Celebration, Spring Fling, and Third Grade Celebration. We love seeing all the notes of support from grandparents, aunts and uncles, neighbors and friends. Let’s cheer our kids on and help our schools! Make your pledge here
Reach out to newburyportpto@gmail.com if you have any trouble. We can help you register and log reading minutes.
