Steuart W. Weller Elementary Weekly Newsletter
Principal Newsletter:
March 16, 2025
Dear Families:
Please join us Friday morning, March 21, 2025 @ 8am for the SWES PTO meeting. All of our meetings are virtual. A link will be sent Friday morning. The featured topic this week will be Student Mental Health. Our school counselors, school social worker, and school psychologist will be presenting. They will share information regarding school and school district resources for students and their families.
Congratulations to the SWES Odyssey of the Mind Team! Their first place trophy is in the trophy case!
We truly appreciate everyone's patience as our HVAC system is being worked on. If your child notes that it is cold one day and like a summer day on the next day, your child is not wrong! The technicians are working diligently to get the system on track!
If you have a child who will be attending kindergarten in the fall, please start the registration process ASAP. If we reach capacity, students may have to attend a neighboring school. Email Nancy.fuller@lcps.org for more information.
Two safety reminders:
1. Do not use Exchange St. to drop off or pick up your children. Use the car loop.
2. Always make sure you have a photo ID with you when you come to school. We do not accept id's on your phone. We must confirm ID's through our Visitor Management System Protocols.
Respectfully yours,
Julia Burton, Principal
Odyssey of the Mind Winners:
Steuart Weller's 4th-grade Odyssey of the Mind team has won first place in their category at the Odyssey of the mind competition. As a result, they will be advancing to the state competition on April 26th! The team consisted of: Carmel R., Sachi M., Nidharsana D., Kaylee W., Nithiya G., and Jude K.. This team is back-to-back winners, as they won both in 2024 and 2025.
The OM team's problem for 2025 was titled "Astronomical Odyssey”. This problem challenged teams to create a humorous performance set in a team-created historical civilization that explains constellations and the stories behind them. The performance had to include a humorous astronomer, a lighting effect, and a shooting star.
The team invented Huelinks, a historic civilization that gave colors to the Earth. They designed dazzling lighting effects, a shooting star, and a dynamic humorous performance that truly stood out, making them winners of the 2025 competition.
Spring Book Fair is this Week:
Warm weather has hit our area! Time to grab a book and sit outside and soak up the sun. A perfect excuse to visit our Spring Book Fair this week. Check out the information about this important event that is occurring March 17 through March 21.
Save Money - Order Your Yearbook Now:
Prices will go up on April 1. Take the time to order your yearbook. Order today and guarantee your child a yearbook. We only order a few extra yearbooks over the number of pre-sold orders. Rising Sixth Grade Event @ Belmont Ridge MS for 2025-26:
We can't believe that the time is nearing when we have to say good-bye to our fifth grade students. In preparation to moving on to sixth grade, Belmont Ridge Middle School has many opportunities for students to become familiar with their new surroundings. "Bridge to the Ridge" is a middle school transition "camp" held on June 23rd and June 24th. It's a two-day program, and families can choose between a morning or afternoon session. Kids learn their way around the middle school, practice opening their lockers, get familiar with scheduling and how middle school life works. This has been a popular program for years and is designed to put kids' minds at ease as they begin their middle school careers. See the flyer attached. (Spanish version) Deadline to enroll is June 14, 2025.
Watchdog Parents:
Watch Dog Parents are welcome at Weller! What is this wonderful program you ask? This is an opportunity for parents to become role models for our students. You will have the opportunity to work with classes, students, and your children's classroom throughout the day. You pick the full day or half day to commit your time working with the Wild Cats. Click here to find out more.
It is important that you provide admin two (2) weeks notice so that they can plan for your visit. All requests to be a Watchdog Parent will be confirmed by admin via email.
