Latest Guidance and How It Applies to Public Schools in Arkansas
The CDC released new guidelines for COVID over the past two weeks.
Short version for those who want to cut to the chase:
- Isolation: If you test positive for COVID stay home for 5 days and if symptom-free and 24 hours fever-free return to school; wear a mask through day 10
- Quarantine: If exposed to positive case within 3 feet for 15 cumulative minutes stay home for 5 days; wear a mask through day 10
Who would need to quarantine:
If you are considered a close contact with someone with COVID-19, you should quarantine if you are in one of the following groups:
- You are ages 18 or older and completed the primary series of recommended vaccine, but have not received a recommended booster shot when eligible.
- You are age 18 or older and received the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine (completing the primary series) over 2 months ago and have not received the recommended booster dose
- You are not vaccinated or have not completed a primary vaccine series.
Who does not need to quarantine:
If you come into close contact with someone with Covid-19 and you are in one of the following groups, you DO NOT NEED TO QUARANTINE:
- You are ages 18 and older and have received all recommended vaccine doses, including a booster and additional primary shots for immunocompromised people
- You are ages 5-17 and completed the primary series of Covid-19 vaccinations
- You had confirmed Covid-19 within the last 90 days
Below is the link to slides with more information. We encourage you to read through these to get a better understanding of the newest guidelines. Mountainburg Schools will do everything possible to keep our doors open; however, it takes all of us following common sense procedures for this to happen - handwashing, distancing, wearing a mask if needed.
And always remember that is best to "Err on the side of caution." Keep your student home if he/she is running a fever and not feeling well.
District Point of Contact: If your student tests positive for COVID or you are aware that he/she is potentially has been in close contact with someone who tested positive, please contact Nurse Amber Breeden - 479-369-4400. She is available Monday - Friday, 7:30 AM - 3:30 PM.
Please direct any questions you have to one our school nurses:
- Nurse Amy Allen - Mountainburg Elementary - 479-369-2762
- Nurse Amber Breeden - Mountainburg Middle School and High School - 479-369-4400.
Checking Out Your Student
It should go without saying that attendance is of utmost importance for your student to get the maximum benefit out of the classes that he/she is enrolled in. We understand that situations arise that warrant students to be absent from school or to be checked out.
Good attendance in school is also the start for building a good work ethic.
We ask that you and your student read the below policy. Again, this is for the protection of everyone at Mountainburg High School.
