Division 1 Roundtables
Sophomores and their advisors have begun Division 1 Roundtables. This culminating event of the Division 1 graduation requirement is a chance for students, families, and staff to come together and celebrate the learning sophomores have engaged in so far in their high school journey. Each sophomore is joined by their advisor, a peer advocate, family members, and a faculty second to listen to the student's reflections on their school experience thus far, engage in a dialogue, and offer commendations and recommendations for the future. These roundtables will run through the end of the school year. As always, we look forward to welcoming families into our building to celebrate our incredible students!
Final Exams (Grades 9-11)
Final Exams for underclassmen will take place from Friday, June 14th- Wednesday, June 19th. Each day we will hold two exams with a break in between. Teachers will be available in the afternoon to provide extra help and facilitate Division 1 Roundtables. All students are expected to attend their final exam period unless they have a Saber Flex, Academic Support, or Math Support class that period. Please note also that, as final grades are due from teachers the morning of June 20th, there is no grace period or re-assessment window for these final assignments. See below for a more detailed schedule.
Student Missing Final Exams
Per our school policy: “Generally, absences other than for illness during the school year are strongly discouraged. The school principal or their designee may, however, grant special approval of absence for family vacations, provided written approval is given at least two weeks in advance.” That being stated, if advance notice is provided, outlined below are our procedures for students rescheduling final exams.
During final exam days (June 14th-19th), we run two exams a day: one from 8:30 to 10:15 and another from 10:45-12:30.
When students require a make-up exam, they need to communicate and work with their teacher(s) to find a time that is mutually agreeable.
Students can potentially schedule a make-up exam during a Saber Flex period, an Academic Support period, or otherwise free period if they have off or open campus.
Additionally, students may schedule no more than one make-up exam during the afternoon of final exam days (12:30-3:30pm). Students may take no more than 3 exams a day in total.
School counselors are available to assist with making a plan and coordinating with teachers, and students are encouraged to meet with them if they need assistance.
Should no mutually agreeable time for a rescheduled exam be identified, students will have to come into school during the summer to complete their final, and they will receive an Incomplete as their course score until the final is scored. Additionally, teachers may not be available to come to school to score the final until August.

New this year for seniors - voter registration! We're pleased to announce that we'll have a voter registration table available for seniors, courtesy of both Mont Vernon and Amherst, on June 11th, the same day you pick up your cap and gown. As long as you turn 18 before the elections, you're eligible to register to vote. Here's what you'll need to bring:
Proof of identity (such as a driver's license or student ID with your date of birth)
Proof of citizenship (passport or birth certificate)
Proof of residence (your driver's license with your address will suffice)
Representatives from both towns will be present to assist you and answer any questions you may have. They'll also be able to provide you with absentee ballots if you wish to use one after registering.
Class of 2024 dues are $50 and should be paid prior by June 1. Dues go towards the senior breakfast, BBQ, and offsetting the cost of the senior class trip. Dues can be paid by cash, check (made out to Souhegan Activities fund and "Senior dues" in the memo line), or by card on MySchoolBucks.
Seniors' Laptops
By next Tuesday afternoon we need to have all of the seniors check in with John Fletcher and Joseph Cooper regarding their school issued laptops, even if they are no longer using them. This is a requirement for seniors collecting their cap and gown. What is your role at Souhegan?
Social Studies Teacher
How long have you been with Souhegan?
26 years
What do you love about your job?
There are so many things I love about my job. At the top of the list is the fact that I get to develop a whole new set of relationships each year with each new group of students. I love learning from them and with them, and continually evolving as a teacher and a human. I love talking about the wonders of the brain and neuroplasticity. I also love that I have the most amazing colleagues that I get to call my best friends! I love that Souhegan is so much more than a job. It is a community.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I love being outdoors in all seasons. I enjoy hiking, cycling, snowshoeing, skiing, practicing yoga, reading, going to the beach (especially at Martha's Vineyard), listening to music, and spending time with my two kids, Alexa (19) and Jackson (16).
If you were given one wish what would it be?
I wish for a world full of kindness with an end to the stigma around mental health disorders, where everyone embraces the idea that it is okay to not be okay AND we can do hard things. (That might be more than one wish...)
Do you have a favorite quote or mantra?
The most powerful words anyone can say to you are the words you say in your own head.
