Cold Weather

Oak Grove prioritizes outdoor play whenever possible to promote physical activity and social interaction. Recess will occur outdoors unless the temperature or wind chill drops below 10 degrees (Inclement weather is an exception).

Please make sure your child is equipped with the "Five-Point Gear" for cold weather:

Hat
Gloves or mittens
Winter jacket
Snow boots (if applicable)
Snow pants (if applicable)

Winter Testing

During the week of December 9, FastBridge will be proctored to students in grades K & 1 and i-Ready will be proctored to students in grades 2-8. To learn more about these assessments, please visit our website.

Spelling Bee

Sometime before the break, all 4th-8th grade ELA teachers will provide the official spelling list from the Scripps Spelling Bee to prepare for the qualifying spelling bee test. Each grade level will send their top 5 spellers (and an alternate) to the school spelling bee on January 16 at 6:30 pm in the Junior High Learning Center. Please note: If you have a conflict that evening, please do not take the qualifying test and allow other children the opportunity to possibly qualify for the bee.

Hour of Code

This year, the Hour of Code is formally recognized during the week of December 9. Schools around the world will join in the Hour of Code movement as part of Computer Science Education Week (CSEdWeek). With just one hour of coding—whether during CSEdWeek or anytime throughout the year—anyone can learn the basics of coding. Due to winter testing, Oak Grove students will engage in activities next week. We will have more to share in the next Oak Grove News.

Student Council

The Student Council will be selling "Home of an Eagle" wooden yard signs.

Student Council's Holiday Collection for A Safe Place

Student Council is sponsoring a collection for A Safe Place. Please take a look at the flyer and send something in with your child. There are boxes outside both offices. No wrapping is required; just bring in an unopened item.

12/17/24- BoE Meetings; Committee of the Whole 6:00 pm & Regular Meeting 6:45 pm (JH Cafe)

1/6/25 - School resumes

12/9/24 - 7th Grade Girls Basketball vs Northwood @ Lake Bluff Middle School at 4:30 pm & 8th Grade Boys Basketball vs Deerpath Gold @ Edgewood Middle School at 4:15 pm

12/10/24 - 8th Grade Girls Basketball vs Millburn @ Deerpath Middle School at 4:30 & Oak Grove Hosting 7th Grade Boys Basketball Tourney 4:15 pm. Oak Grove vs Highland & 8th Boys and 7th Girls will play if they win on Monday (TBD)

We need your help supervising the playgrounds before school on Friday, December 20 so that the staff can enjoy breakfast together. Please sign up here to help.
The Girl & Guest Dance will be taking place on February 1, 2025 from 6:30-8:30 pm, and tickets are now ON SALE. The theme is ‘An Enchanted Evening in the Forest’. Don’t forget to get raffle tickets for a chance to win prizes. We look forward to seeing you there.
