# Algebra 1

## Week 5

## Tuesday (September 3rd)

### Unit 2: Properties of Functions

In this unit, students will determine whether relations define functions and evaluate functions given an element in their domain. Additionally, students will explore domain and range of functions (including real-world situations) and will practice representing domain and range using inequalities.

### Identifying Functions

In this lesson, students will determine if a given representation defines a function.

- We will learn how to identify functions from different representations and use the vertical line test to determine if a graph represents a function.
- I will given an example of a function and a non-function, explaining why each example fits its category.
- What is a function, and how is it different from a general relation?

How can we determine if a relation is a function using different representations?

Why is the vertical line test useful in identifying functions from graphs?

How do functions apply to real-world situations and problem-solving?

## Wednesday (September 4th)

### Evaluating Expressions

In this lesson, students will evaluate functions given elements of their domain.

- We will evaluate functions given elements of their domain.
- I will share any difficulties I encountered and ask any remaining questions.
- What is a function, and how is it different from a regular equation? How do we evaluate a function for a given input? Why is it important to understand how to evaluate functions in real-world contexts?

## Thursday (September 5th)

### Graphing Functions

In this lesson, students will graph functions with and without technology.

- We will graph functions with and without technology.
- I will describe the steps I followed to graph a function manually.
- How do we graph a function manually? How can technology assist us in graphing functions? What are the advantages and disadvantages of each method?

## Friday (September 6th)

### Functions Review

In this lesson, students will apply their understanding of identifying, evaluating, and graphing functions.

- We will apply our understanding of identifying , evaluating, and graphing functions.

- I will complete a short writing assignment where I will explain, in my own words, how to identify a function from a table, graph, or mapping.
- “How can we determine if a relation is a function?”
