Patriot's Pointe
August 28 - September 1 Vol. 2 Edition 5
Happy Sunday Patriot Families!
Greetings Patriot Families,
This week we will host Curriculum Night on Wednesday, August 30, 2023 at 6pm. Our PTSO will kick off the evening followed by a short academic summary of our school in the auditorium. At 6:30, we will release all families to 1st period and allow them to rotate through all seven classes in ten minute intervals. Progress reports will be issued on Thursday, September 7th so please ensure your students are engaging with their teachers to submit and/or retake assignments/assessments. We need your partnership to help students have a successful academic experience. We are continuing to see high levels of student engagement and inquiry based assignments that activate critical thinking from our teachers and students. Please continue to push your students toward excellence each week.
A huge recognition goes to our AP teachers and students! The College Board has bestowed National recognition to 11 of our students for maintaining a 3.5 GPA and for outstanding merit on the PSAT/NMSQT and/or achievement in AP courses. We continue to be proud of our students and the hard work of our teachers who stand behind these students to ensure they excel shine! Increased enrollment in our AP and IB courses will ensure the sustainability of caliber of highly successful students who graduate from Sandy Creek with a Competitive Advantage!
Our Jenkins Road Jam was a huge success! The Marching Band, Cheerleaders, Fine Arts students, and Football team all worked together to engage our feeder schools and make it a safe, family-friendly experience for all! This event would not have been successful without the coordination and assistance from Ms. McDaniel and our Athletic Director, Mr. Carl Green. I look forward to engaging our feeder schools as we continue what is shaping up to be another fantastic school year!
Congratulations are in order for Coach Smiley and the entire football team! Our offensive line was recognized by GHSF, Alfa Insurance, and The U.S. Army as Offensive Line of the Week! Our O Line has achieved a new school record of 502 rushing yards and six touchdowns in a single game against Newnan last week. Our Lady Patriots Volleyball team will host our annual Pink Out and home opener against Westlake High School on Tuesday of this week. Please come out and support the #3 Team in The State and be sure to purchase your Pink Out shirt using the information featured further down in this flyer.
We are encouraging all families to join our Sandy Creek PTSO! Please see the membership information further down in this newsletter for more information.
We are excited to support our students in their academic endeavors while providing them with a competitive advantage!

Student Advisory Council
As the 2023-2024 school year begins across our great state, it is time once again to seek applications for my Student Advisory Council. These students will meet with me four times throughout the school year to discuss the impact of state policies in the classroom and other education-related issues.
The primary goal of my Student Advisory Council is to provide a voice for students across Georgia to share their perceptions and ideas, and every year, they serve as a valuable resource as I make decisions that impact students across the state. I enjoy meeting and learning about each council member. Their feedback, opinions, and perspectives provide insight for me and the Georgia Department of Education leadership and staff to make the best possible policy choices.
Georgia students are all unique, and we want them all to have an opportunity to be a part of the conversation. Please encourage any 10th- through 12th-grade students who are interested in participating to apply to join the 2023-2024 State School Superintendent's Student Advisory Council. I have included the application instructions below. If you or your students have questions, please email students@doe.k12.ga.us.
APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS:
Click here for the 2023-2024 Student Advisory Council application. Applications must be submitted by September 8, 2023, at 5 p.m. Late applications will not be accepted.
Students in grades 10-12 enrolled in a public high school (including charter schools and virtual students) are eligible to apply.
Selected students will be contacted via email. All students may visit gadoe.org/studentadvisory on September 26, 2023, at 10 a.m. to determine if they have been selected.
Please note that we typically receive hundreds more applications than we can accept. Not being selected for the Student Advisory Council does not mean the student's application did not meet the qualifications.
Sincerely,
Richard Woods

SCHS Students:
The HiTeen program gives students an opportunity to serve elementary students within the county once a week after school. The High School Students may support the elementary school students with homework or just spend time with them. You will have to have your own transportation home after mentoring.
If you are interested in becoming a Hi Teen mentor, please complete the application. Students need to be able to commit to 1 hour a week(typically the same day) in the after school program at Burch Elementary School to mentor a student. The application will be open through August 25th. There will be a mandatory mentoring training on Thursday, August 31st at 4 pm in the Counseling office . Mentoring begins the week of September 4th.

The Campus Parent portal is your source for student and family records, including household and individual contact information, attendance, school-based fees, academic planning (high school), forms, and report cards. The Parent portal also provides access to the GaDOE SLDS Portal. Please set up the parent Infinite Campus account first. The same username will be shared with Schoology to set up your parent account in Schoology. Because each login reflects the person associated with the username, it is recommended that a separate account is created for each parent.
- Usernames can be comprised of letters, numbers, the underscore, and dash.
- Please refrain from creating a username that is all numbers, as that will interfere with student data here in our district.
- After completing the setup of your parent portal account, please allow 24 hours for your new account information to be sent to Schoology before attempting to log into your Schoology parent account.
