Click HERE to hear more about their passion and excitement in bringing holiday music to our District.
RUNNING WITH THE MUSTANGS
‘Running with the Mustangs’ is a new video series to celebrate the “heartbeat of Strongsville City Schools.” This new series highlights students, staff, and programs that make SCS a special and unique place. Click HERE for this week’s episode and learn more about the special “SMS Gives Back” program that has been a part of the holiday season for middle school students and staff for a number of years.
FRIDAY, DECEMBER 20TH SCHEDULE
This is the first time we have had an academic calendar that contains two days when some students have school and others do not. Friday, December 20th is the first day this will occur. Only students in Grs. K-5 will attend school on Friday, December 20th. The last school day for students in Grs. 6-12 prior to winter break is Thursday, December 19th.
SHS BEGINNING DRAMA & THEATRE CLASSES PERFORM “A CHRISTMAS CAROL: A RADIO PLAY”
Come join Mr. Jenkins' Beginning Drama & Theatre SHS classes as they perform A Christmas Carol: A Radio Play. Performances will take place on both Monday, 12/9 and Tuesday, 12/10 at 7pm in the SHS Auditorium. In the tradition of Reader's Theatre, students will have the scripts in front of them as they tell the classic tale of Ebenezer Scrooge with some live sound effects. The objective is to capture the art of storytelling through the voice, facial expressions, and gestures in a low-stakes atmosphere. Performances are free to the public, but donations will be accepted to support the theatre program and recoup funds used for licensing rights, specialized costumes, props, and sound effects.
“IEP BY THE NUMBERS” PARENT WORKSHOP - THU. 12/12
There is still time to sign up for the “IEP by the Numbers” Parent Workshop on Thursday, December 12th from 6:30pm - 8:00pm. The workshop includes breaking down the IEP by the numbers (sections). Attendees are encouraged to bring their child's IEP as a guide. This is an informal meeting that will provide additional awareness of items that should be in each section of the IEP. The workshop will be held at the SCS Administrative Offices (18199 Cook Ave.). Please RSVP to SCS Parent Mentor Teresa Karsnak (tkarsnak@scsmustangs.org / 440.572.6593) if you plan to attend.
MUSTANG SPOTLIGHT - NICK HOWARD, PHYSICAL EDUCATION TEACHER AT SURRARRER
Mr. Nick Howard is in his third year with Strongsville City Schools and as Surrarrer Elementary’s Physical Education teacher. In addition to his daily interactions with Surrarrer students, Mr. Howard is also an assistant coach for the 8th grade football team at Strongsville Middle School. He earned his undergraduate degree from Kent State University and has his graduate degree in Sports Administration from the University of Cincinnati.
“I love working with Surrarrer students because I get to see their joy and excitement for physical activity. It's incredibly rewarding to watch them develop their skills, build confidence, and learn the importance of teamwork. One of my favorite aspects is getting to know each student individually and building strong relationships with them. Creating a fun and inclusive environment where every student feels encouraged to participate is essential to me. Their energy and enthusiasm inspire me to keep finding new ways to engage and motivate them to stay active.”
“I have the greatest job in the world! I get to come to work every day, play games, and interact with all of my students. I also work with the best Physical Education colleagues across our District and collaborate with them to bring new ideas to life to make our students’ experiences that much more exciting. My motto has always been "anything for the kids." In a world full of black and white, I get to be the color red - whether that's wearing a different pair of shoes every day or bleaching my hair at the end of the year to boost morale. Who doesn't like PE class - am I right?”
Thank you Mr. Howard for always bringing your energy and enthusiasm to class and providing authentic experiences for your students! #ModelMustang
