Weekly Update to Families
October 4, 2024
Message from the Principal
Goodwater Families,
As we approach fall break, I wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude for your continued support and partnership. This is a wonderful time for students to recharge and enjoy time with family and friends.
Encourage your children to embrace the season—whether it’s enjoying the beautiful autumn leaves, participating in local festivities, or simply relaxing at home. It’s a great opportunity for them to reflect on their learning and come back refreshed and ready to tackle new challenges.
I also want to take a moment to recognize all of our students who were recognized for perfect attendance for the first 6 weeks. Way to go! Enjoy your free coupon to Arby's. The overall percentage for perfect attendance for the first six weeks was 39%. Exceptional! There will be many more incentives through out the year geared towards attendance.
A Few Reminders:
- Progress Reports (10/4): All progress reports will be mailed to parents by October 4th.
- Parent Conferences (10/14): Keep an eye out for sign-up details for your child's conference with their guide. Conferences will be available in person, virtually, or by phone. Please reach out to your child's guide for more information. We have a goal of 100% participation from our guardians.
- Learning Resources: We’ve compiled a list of 40 free and easy-to-reference learning resources for all grade levels to help support your child's learning and well-being at home. You can find it here: [Educational Resources for Parents]
Thank you for everything you do! Wishing you and your family a joyful and relaxing fall break.
Mrs. Beverly

Movie Night Donations
Double Your Giving
We wanted to share a great way to maximize the impact of your donations to our school! Many employers offer matching gift or grant programs, where they will match your charitable contributions dollar for dollar.
By signing up for your company's matching gift program, your future donations could go twice as far. For example, if you donate $25, your employer could match that amount, turning your $25 into $50 for our school!
We encourage you to check with your HR department or employer's benefits portal to see if this option is available. It’s an easy way to make a big difference, and it only takes a few minutes to sign up. You can click the link below to check an alphabetical list of employers who participate in the matching program.
Thank you for your continued support in making our school a great place for our children to learn and grow.
Here is the list of participating employees in alphabetical order.
Book It!
This year our classroom is participating in the BOOK IT! Program to encourage your child to find the joy in reading. The mission of the program is to turn “have to read” into “want to read” and the only way to get better at reading is to take the time to do it! Below is how the program works, along with ideas on how you can get involved at home. Please be sure to confirm your approval using the code from the parent approval letter I will be sending to you.
A Note from Dr. Bruce
Goodwater Montessori Public Charter School Families,
Thank you for all of the work you have done so far this school year. We appreciate you bringing the students to school each day and picking them up in the afternoon, as well as your communication to the Guides and Administration. We know you have a choice for your student's education and we appreciate that you have chosen our school for that education. We have completed the first nine weeks of school. Students are showing good progress as they learn concepts and review concepts already learned.
As you begin the fall break please be safe and enjoy this extra time with your child(ren). This break allows students to recharge and prepare for the rest of the Fall semester. Your students work hard each day and are learning new concepts and new ideas. For the younger students they are learning about collaboration, working with others, and sharing ideas with others. Please enjoy your time together next week. We look forward to your return on October 15th.
I do want to remind everyone that your guide will be sending out information regarding the Progress Conferences that will be held on October 14th. If you have any questions please reach out to us. If you know families that are looking for a change in their child’s education please refer them to Kim Hodges (kim.hodges@goodwatermontessori.org) for a tour. We have openings in K-5 grade.
Kindest Regards,
Dr. Bruce
Theme of the Month - Resilience- October
What is Resilience?
- Being resilient refers to someone who can quickly recover from setbacks, stress, adverse situations or unexpected changes.
Why Focus on Resilience?
- Resilience gives us the strength to bounce back from challenges in life. And we all face hardships at some point in life. But those who develop resilience can tap into their strengths and support systems. This gives us the best chance to overcome challenges and work through problems.
Resilience In Action
- Acknowledge and affirm acts of resilience. Publicly praise a student who models resilience.
Montessori Moment.....
Developing Obedience
Developing Obedience:
Your child is now sometimes capable of following commands. They can sometimes understand and sometimes comply, but not always.
Their movements and minds are beginning to obey their will. Your child is starting to make the connection between their actions and the results of their movements. They still largely act on impulse but are beginning to be able to see the correlation between their actions and the consequences of those actions.
Support Your Child's Will and Obedience
Be Consistent- Follow natural consequences Create a daily routine for your child with your
child Instead of "No ", gently redirect your child to the routine to encourage independent thinking.
Be Patient - Give your child time to complete tasks.
Be Gentle- Speak kindly and at eye level with your Child Give gentle suggestions and
redirection to help your child to remember routines and Procedures Let your child know that it is okay to try again.
Be Organized - Use open shelves for their Toys Make the kitchen accessible to your child.
Give Freedom Within Limits - Limit choices, Make clothing accessible, Give choices rather
than lists, and prepare, your child for their choices as they grow, towards independent thinking.
