CVU Celebrations
September 6, 2024
Dear CVU Community,
While the joy and excitement of the new year has certainly not faded, this week felt like we got right back to work. Teachers jumped into restructuring our student Engage Survey to better align with our goal of knowing a student’s whole story--how they see themselves, who their people are, and where they want to go. And, of course, what they’re learning. Whether it’s mapping, modeling, painting or performing, students are being challenged, encouraged and pushed to think deeply and thoughtfully. It’s pretty exciting to watch.

**IMPORTANT INFO FROM THE HEALTH OFFICE**
If you have not done so already, please fill out the PowerSchool forms available on the main CVU website for your child as soon as possible. They are part of our required Annual Updates that should be completed at the beginning of each school year. These forms include: Student Contact Updates, Student Health Update, and the School Permissions Update. These forms will be necessary for your child to attend field trips and receive medication for this school year. If you need any assistance, feel free to call your house office or the health office. Thank you for taking the time to get these done.
Upcoming Dates
9/21 - Spirit Day and Homecoming Dance
9/26 - CVU At-A-Glance 6:00-8:00
Note to Seniors: Please look for an email, including a Google Form, regarding the PEO Star Scholarship. The PEO Scholarship is a highly competitive one-time $2,500 scholarship recognizing women in the final year of high school who demonstrate outstanding leadership, academic achievement, extracurricular activities and community service, and who plan to pursue full-or-part-time postsecondary education in the U.S. or Canada beginning in the Fall following their high school graduation.
Student Celebrations
From Mark Pogact: The Nichols Core spreading the love on the first few days of school!
From Jessica O'Brien: Nichols Core students shared their first round of writing pieces. Students took turns sharing their writing pieces and they did some mindful coloring while listening to their peers. Amazing writing Nichols!
Congratulations to Will Kallock for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout on September 5, 2024. This accomplishment honors the tremendous dedication to learning outdoor, life and survival skills and continuing to demonstrate service to others. Will has now joined the ranks of approximately 5% of Scouts who actually reach the pinnacle of the Scouting experience.
Karen Kirkland’s R2 calculus class is off to a stellar start. Our group effort editing our homework with Abigail at the helm deserved a fun follow-up class picture. Wigs complementary by Mia.
From Henry Lang: Fairbanks CORE students respond to personal narrative prompts inspired by fortune cookie messages. Students addressed misconceptions about the fortune cookie's origins and its misuse as a symbol of Chinese heritage. Then they spent some time outside playing "Competitive Speed Dating" during CORE Time.
From Annie Bellerose: Environmental Lit students exploring the day's theme of wonder and play.
Snelling Core Canoe Trip: What a perfect day to paddle on the Lamoille River!
From Anthony Spagnolo: Billy Bates, senior, picked up an entire table of leftover plates and trash to help take care of this place. Wasn’t even his mess! Let’s all show more examples of this in our spaces, thanks Billy!
CVU Rowing practice has begun! Beautiful day to be on the water! Anyone interested in joining can reach out to Helen MacAndrews
If you like the sound of laughter, swing by the alcove next to the Riell Deal as the day ends. This crew is sure to bring a smile to your face!
From Community Skills: The Friday Outing Crew had our first day with Vermont Adaptive on the Waterfront in Burlington today. We cannot thank Vermont Adaptive, our CVU Staff, and our students enough for bringing their best and contributing to an awesome day in the sunshine.

We are looking for students interested in engineering, design, programming, project management, photography, and/or writing to join our JV team and build robots with us! There will be informational meetings on Tuesday the 10th and Tuesday the 17th during PM Connect (3:05-3:20) so you can still catch the bus. See you then!
