Message from the Principal, Dr. Sterling H. Seemans
Springer Families,
Thursday was the end of the first marking period. Although teachers have a couple of days to wrap up grading, it is for the most part done. This is always a wonderful time to sit down with your child and go through their courses with them on Schoology. Make it a point to go to each class and look at their gradebooks. How did they do on summatives that carry a lot of weight with regards to their final grade? Were there any missing assignments that weren’t turned in? Did they do well in certain subjects and poorly in others? Have you reached out to those teachers to open a line of communication?
As our job is to prepare your middle school student for the rigors and demands of high school, this is a good opportunity, especially for our 8th graders, to step up and take a certain level of independence. Building good habits like checking grades and communicating with teachers in an appropriate manner are wonderful attributes to take with them to high school. However, it is a skill that needs practice and guidance. Sitting down with your child to help review and practice this will help reinforce these things that we cover in our weekly advisory lessons.
If you have any questions, concerns, or need additional information please do not hesitate to contact me or one of my administrators. We are eager to help.
All The Best,
Dr. Sterling H. Seemans
Principal

Kudos to the cast, crew, and production staff for putting on this hilarious performance. The fine and performing arts at Springer are second to none in the state. Providing students with the opportunity to perform and produce shows is one of the many amazing ways we give students the chance to grow at Springer. A huge thanks goes to Mrs. Ferrara and Ms. Lee for organizing this production and experience for our students. Fall Sports Updates
Boys Soccer
The boys soccer team won the championship game by defeating Talley 2-0 last Friday. Mason Waters and Colin Reed played brilliantly and controlled play throughout the entire game. Colin Reed struck a 35 yard kick that rebounded off the goalie to a crashing Renato Paredes who buried the first goal of the game. Later Colin had another huge kick to Nikolas Vasko who buried the second goal. Nikolas Vasko kept the offensive pressure on generating plenty of scoring opportunities. Meanwhile Tyler Overly, Steven Ng and Peter Ng all played top level soccer to keep the tigers frustrated and help to control the game for the bulldogs. Will Mulvena, Avery Townsend, Shane Savage, Cooper Richardson, Jackson Madrid, Charlie Freidrich and Phillip Obrien all played really well! Great team win!
This years all district honors went to the exceptionally talented, Mason Waters, Colin Reed, Nikolas Vasko, Tyler Overly and Renato Paredes. The Sportsmanship award went to Cooper Richardson. Coop showed up daily with support for his teammates, opponents and coaches. He was the powerful positive energy that helped our team stay focused with expectations being high throughout the season.
It has been a great honor to coach such a talented group of players. Thanks for a great season. Jerseys are due back to coach no later than tomorrow!
Field Hockey
Field Hockey had a huge 1-0 win against Talley in the middle school championship on Friday! Although they dominated the entire game the lone goal did not come until the start of the second half with a beautiful passing sequence from Scarlett Walther to Emma Young to Jenna Grimes with a finish by Emma Burkhart!! Hailey Mullenix made a big play at the end of the game to get out of the defensive corner in extra time. Great Season to the field hockey team!!
Cross Country
Girls took 2nd place! With Corinne Dorman and Anajah Hickman scoring 4th and 6th place.
Boys won 1st place and took 8 of the top 10 medals! Top ten finishers include: Owen Muse, Jaxson Kohr, Ben Merlo, Chase Salvatore, Aidyn Golson, Dylan Williams, Ethan Isabella and Ryan Caswell!

4 Or Less Equals Success
Welcome to the new school year--it's an exciting time for everyone! We're excited for a great year of learning and growth for all of our students!
This school year, the Brandywine School District is adopting the 4 Or Less = Success school attendance campaign to promote good student attendance. Good attendance means coming to school on time and staying all day, every day, which is key to every child’s success. After all, students must be present to learn!
All absences, whether excused or not, add up. Chronically absent students are more likely to read below grade level, have lower math and reading test scores, repeat a grade, and drop out of high school.
What you can do:
- Talk to your child about how going to school every day will help them do well in school and achieve their hopes and dreams.
- Keep an attendance chart at home to track absences.
- Recognize your child for attending school every day.
- Find a relative, friend, or neighbor who can take your child to and from school if you can’t.
- Set up medical appointments for weekdays after school.
- Make attending school every day a priority unless your child is truly sick
For more information and resources, visit www.brandywineschools.org/4orLess
The Brandywine School District wants all children to attend school each day so they can be successful in the future! We will be sending more information, materials, and tips about attendance throughout this school year. Please join us in making school attendance a priority so that we can help all of our children learn, achieve, and succeed.
