Dear Flower Valley Community,

The first day of school is almost here! Woo hoo! It has been great seeing so many of you at our community visits and Open House. Thank you to everyone who came out to see us. :)

Monday is the first day for our students to return to school. Please be sure to arrive by 8:50 to allow enough time for students to get to class before instruction starts at 9:00. Make sure to bring your patience because arrival and dismissal can take a few days to start running smoothly. We have a lot of walkers and bike riders, so please be careful when dropping off and picking up students and when driving through the neighborhood. We want to make sure everyone arrives safely.

Be sure to check out the FVES parent handbook linked at the bottom of the newsletter. It is filled with information about all of our FVES policies and procedures. Additionally, if you missed the welcome letter sent earlier in August, you can access it on our school website which is linked here. It contains information about preparing for the first day of school.

Our next big school event is Back to School Night which is Thursday, September 12th. Our PTA is also sponsoring a Back to School picnic which will be held September 6th from 5-7:00PM on the FVES playground.

Wood Middle School Mum Sale

We will continue with this motto to encourage our students to be ready and excited for learning, demonstrate kindness in all of their actions, to celebrate what they bring to our school as the amazing individuals they are, and to respect and celebrate the differences that all of our students and staff bring to our school community.

Back to School Night is Thursday, September 12th from 6:30-8:30PM. We invite you to visit your child’s teacher and learn about the resources available to students and families.

Food trucks will be at Flower Valley starting at 6:00PM, so bring the family to enjoy dinner together.

We are hoping to create a flexible and community responsive evening for you to get to know your child’s teacher and to learn more about Flower Valley and the resources available to you and your child.

Your child’s teacher will send a sign-up sheet for one of three sessions. All sessions will include the same information.

The FVES staff and the PTA work collaboratively to host a variety of events during the school year. Some of the events we are excited to offer are math and reading nights, STEM Night, International Night, a winter musical production, staff/parent basketball, Career Day, our annual carnival, and so much more. We will keep you updated regarding the details of the events throughout the school year. Tentative dates are included below. Please note these dates are subject to change.

FVES PTA is ready for a fun and fulfilling school year! We have family-friendly events planned every month. PTA will continue providing generous funds to the school, thanks to your membership dues (just $15). PTA supports field trips, teacher/staff grants, student enrichment and much more. We also run spirit wear, yearbook and book fair initiatives.

Membership meetings are open to all and childcare and dinner provided at all in-person meetings this year! Our first meeting is Sept. 6 at 6 PM at the PTA Back to School picnic.

We are excited to announce that the annual Wood Middle School PTA Mum Sale is now OPEN. If you are not familiar with the sale, this is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the Wood PTA and provides needed supplies and programming for the 2024-25 school year!

Place your orders now through September 14th at http://www.woodmsmums.org. Mums are available in three sizes (8 inch, 10 inch or 12 inch) and various colors. Delivery is available in the Wood feeder area on Friday, September 27th ($10 fee) or can be picked up on Saturday, September 28th.

The parent handbook provides a wealth of information about school policies and procedures. Some of these include volunteer procedures, school parties and birthday celebrations, bullying and harassment reporting, visitor policies, attendance, health policies, safety and security, and so much more.
