Read-A-Thon Returns to Washington!
The PTO is excited to announce the return of Read-A-Thon, which will take place February 3rd through 24th. Last year's event created a lot of excitement about reading and was a successful fundraiser. Instructions for activating your reader's account will be sent out before Read-A-Thon begins. Readers can earn individual prizes and classrooms can engage in friendly competition! Please click here to get started. We hope you will be reading with us this year!
Playground Renovation Update
Washington is getting a new playground this summer! We are in the early stages of planning and designing a playground to replace the current blue park near door 12a. As part of this process, we will engage our students, teachers and parents to get their input on a design that will best meet the needs of the Washington community. We are excited to hear from students about what they want in a playground, and they will have the chance to vote on design options in the coming weeks. We look to present a design to parents at the February PTO meeting so stay tuned for more details.
Student Device Evaluation Survey
The District 64 1:1 Digital Learning Program started in 2014. The purpose of our 1:1 Digital Learning Program is to provide tools and resources to our 21st Century learners.
District 64 is now conducting a comprehensive Student Device Evaluation as part of our 1:1 Digital Learning Program. The goal of this evaluation process is to ensure that our student devices support the district’s vision, mission, and strategic plan, provide learners with access to needed curriculum, and are affordable and sustainable for the future.
We are asking families to complete this survey. Your responses will help inform the District's next steps in regards to our 1:1 Digital Learning Program and student devices.
SAEBRS Social Emotional Screener This Week
We will administer the SAEBRS Social and Emotional screener at Washington this week. The SAEBRS universal screener helps us understand students’ SEL skills and has two parts; one part is completed by your child’s teacher or teaching team for each individual student in grades K-8. The second part is a short survey completed only by students in grades 3-8. You may review the teacher-completed questions and student questions in the attached documents. The SAEBRS helps teachers determine which students may need more support with achieving the SEL standards. For example, if students report that they "feel worried" or "argue with others," classroom teachers may help students manage these feelings and resolve conflict.
We have noted requests to opt students out in the fall, and will continue to honor these parent requests next week.
Valentine's Day at Washington
Valentine's Day 2025 falls on a non-attendance day for students. After discussions and feedback from staff, we have decided to move our second celebration day to the end of the school year. As a result, we will not celebrate Valentine's Day with classroom parties; however, some classroom teachers may provide time for students to distribute Valentines cards in class. Classroom teachers who plan to do this will provide more information to families in the coming weeks.
Registration for Next Year is Now Open!
Registration is open and you can now enroll your child for the 2025-2026 school year. All of the information and links can be located on the District Registration Page .
The registration deadline will be noon on Friday, March 14, and if you register your child and pay the fees by then, you will receive the early bird discount. You must fill out and submit registration forms by Monday, March 10, at 3:00 pm to take advantage of the fee discount. This allows our staff time to verify documents and send out invoices so you can pay them by noon on Friday, March 14. Any families who do not register by this date will receive a records release, as we assume you’re going to another district.
For the 17th consecutive year, academic registration fees will remain unchanged for families who register and pay by the deadline. However, the early bird discount does not apply to participation, bus, or tuition fees. Our website has the fee list and explanations for any fee increases, such as for Instrumental Music and Chromebook maintenance.
