I hope you all had a wonderful long weekend! It was a short but busy week at Windsor. Don't forget we have our first general PTA meeting on Tuesday at 7:00 pm in the Commons, there will be a RULER presentation prior to the meeting at 6:30 presented by Windsor's RULER implementation team.

Project Pen Pal

Windsor alum, Stella Fitzpatrick, is working on her Girl Scout Gold Award which is the highest award a Girl Scout can earn! It takes years of planning to complete, and it needs to be done by high school graduation. We are so excited to be partnering with Stella on Project Pen Pal! Due to Covid restrictions, we will only be able to take 24 primary and 24 intermediate students for this event. If we receive more than 24 for each group, we will need to hold a lottery.

Art Club

Art Club 2021 & 2022. Due to Covid restraints, we will have two 4th and 5th grade sessions, fall and spring. Interested students have been placed by lottery into these sessions. Look for Art Club News in this Friday’s backpack mail for your child’s placement.

Are You Interested in Having your Child Learn to Play the Violin or Cello?

Music for Youth is a parent-paid program, partially subsidized by District 25, that provides string instruction at your school. To learn about our program, please attend our parent information session on Thursday, September 23 at 7:00 pm at Olive-Mary Stitt Elementary School. You will hear a short musical presentation by some of our students, learn about our program, and meet our teachers. Registration materials will be available.

Arrival and Dismissal-

Drop and go on Windsor Drive and the front circle has been moving nicely.

Just a few reminders:

- Walkers, please only cross at the crosswalk.

-Please do not turn around in neighbor's driveways, go around the block to get into the car line (No U-Turns).

-Please pull all of the way up to the car in front of you, please have your child get out of the car independently and quickly. Children should not get out of the car on the street side, this is very unsafe.

-There are no pets allowed on school property, please keep all pets at home or in your car.

Hello Parents!

Reminders:

--Please pack a change of clothes and extra masks in your child’s backpack--accidents happen!

--If your child shows symptoms of COVID: fever (100.4 or higher), headache, shortness of breath, new cough, sore throat, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of taste or smell, fatigue, muscle or body aches-- keep your all of your children home until the child with symptoms gets COVID tested and results are back.

--If your child is a CLOSE CONTACT of anyone with COVID, they must stay home and quarantine (with a person who is diagnosed with COVID for more than 15 min, in the classroom setting within 3 feet with mask or within 6 ft without a mask, outside of the classroom setting its within 6 feet masked or not). If that child develops symptoms while in quarantine, they must get tested with a PCR test.

Did you know that this Sunday is Video Games Day in both the USA and Canada? Instead of just playing video games, why not do some video game-related math? Clicking on the link below will bring you to a page of leveled math puzzles. Puzzle A is the easiest, and C is the most challenging. At the bottom of each puzzle is a link to a Google Form where your child can submit his / her answer to see if it is correct. They can even take a picture of their math work and send it to me. I'd love to see how your child solved the problem. Your family can complete one problem or all three! You can access the page of puzzles by clicking on this link: VIDEO GAME MATH. Have a great weekend!

To avoid any interruption of class instruction please leave any forgotten student items on the blue cart in the foyer, place a post-it on the item with the student name and teacher. An email to your child's teacher would also be appreciated. Also, remind your child to check in the office in their grade level BLUE bin for any forgotten items.

Regarding our QR CODE for Student Sign In and Out; everything should be working properly now!

We have been passing out a lot of masks to students, be sure to have your child wear a mask to school every day. It is also helpful to have an extra one in their backpack just in case.

The Arlington Heights Park District runs a before and after school student supervision program at all District 25 Elementary Schools and they are in need of and currently hiring CAP supervisors/activity leaders!

Please note that students who choose to pack a meal from home are invited to take a bag with milk that will also contain a fruit, vegetable, and grain at no charge. If your child has food allergies or food intolerances, please work with them to identify what they can consume from this bag, should they decide to pick it up.

All of these bagged items will be wrapped. If a student chooses not to consume all items, those may be placed on a table in the eating area so as to not be wasted.

As a reminder, lunch is free this school year for all District 25 students.

We plan to continue our work with the American Heart Association this school year! Every week you will find a heart-healthy fact in my newsletter.

Sugary drinks often have lots of calories. By some estimates, to burn off the calories from one 12-ounce can of soda, a 75-pound child would need to ride a bicycle at a fast 1 pace for about 30 minutes. It could take a 150-pound adult about 25 minutes of walking at a moderate pace to burn off the same amount of calories.
