Message From the Principal
Dear Mountain Vista Families,
As we enter this season of gratitude, I find myself reflecting on how fortunate we are to be part of such an extraordinary community. Your unwavering support, kindness, and dedication make Mountain Vista Elementary a truly special place, and I am deeply thankful for each and every one of you.
I am thrilled to share some exciting news—thanks to your support, the Cherry Creek Schools mill and bond measure passed! This is a tremendous step forward for our district and our school, ensuring we can continue to deliver on our promise of providing high-quality teachers, safe and welcoming schools, and innovative opportunities for every student to find their unique Pathway of Purpose. Your trust and investment in our students and their future set Cherry Creek Schools apart, and we are ready to bring these projects to life as part of our commitment to growing excellence for our students, staff, and community.
As I think about what makes Mountain Vista such an incredible place, I am reminded of the collective efforts of so many. Our PTO works tirelessly to support our classrooms, organize memorable events, and create meaningful opportunities for our students. The Voices of Color team leads with heart and purpose, fostering inclusivity and ensuring that every child feels valued and seen. Our teachers and staff go above and beyond every day, inspiring our students and shaping their futures with care and dedication. And, of course, our parents and guardians play an invaluable role, partnering with us to make Mountain Vista a vibrant, connected, and thriving school community.
Looking ahead, I hope this winter season provides you and your family with moments of joy, reflection, and connection. Together, we will continue to ensure that Mountain Vista remains a place where every student can dream, believe, achieve.
Thank you for your ongoing support and for being such an integral part of our Mountain Vista family. Wishing you a wonderful November filled with gratitude and warmth.
With appreciation,
Megan Carkhuff
Principal, Mountain Vista Elementary
Arrival/Dismissal/Attendance Reminders
Please remember that we have a soft start beginning at 7:45 a.m., and school starts promptly at 8:00 a.m. Do not drop your students off any earlier than 7:45 a.m. as there is no supervision outside the entry doors before then. Keep in mind that frequent tardiness and early dismissals lead to missed instruction and can affect your student’s ability to successfully meet grade level standards and take part in the school community. If you are calling to excuse an absence for your child, we advise you to use the attendance line (720-886-2795) and not the main office line. If you need to pick up your child prior to dismissal, you must do so no later than 2:25 p.m. (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday) and 1:25 p.m. on Wednesdays. Thank you for your partnership and cooperation in supporting our students.
Reporting an Absence
If your child will be absent for any reason, please remember to call our 24-hour attendance line,

Mindful Milers
We had such a wonderful turnout for our first Mindful Milers’ Club!! The girls had an awesome time learning social emotional skills that we hope they will continue to use beyond Mindful Milers! They also put in lots of miles during our practices leading up to our race! We are so proud of all the hard work they put in during our practices and our season end 5K at Wash Park!

What’s Happening in the ART room?
The students have been busy creating artwork that has been inspired from the time Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art movements. This was an exciting time when artists started depicting what they saw in a new way. They painted outside, used more color, and created moving brushstrokes. Some of these projects include Monet’s Waterlilies and VanGogh’s Iris Paintings.
Be sure to be on the lookout for these AMAZING new pieces of artwork on display:
· Mrs. Jamison and Vogel’s Kindies- “All About LINES”
· Mrs. Storto’s 1st graders- “Little Blue Hippos”
· Mrs. Luther’s 2nd graders- "Stained Glass Windows”
· Mrs. Larson’s 2nd graders- “Scarecrows”
· Mrs. Washburn’s 2nd graders- "Turkey Mural”
· Mrs. Barnes’ 2nd graders- “Monet’s Waterlilies”
· Mrs. Sherry/Nibecker’s and Mr. Alonzo’s 3rd graders- “Egyptian Cats”
· Mrs. Finch’s 5th graders- “Notre Dame Cathedrals”
