King Philip Regional High School
Week of August 21st

October 12, 2024
Principal's Message
Greetings KP Community,
Thank you to all who attended Open House on Wednesday night. It is always a wonderful opportunity to highlight the teaching and learning that takes place at KPRHS and provide an opportunity for parents/guardians to tour our building and put faces to names of our educators. I appreciate our student guides who were quite busy giving directions throughout the evening. We also hope you enjoyed seeing so many of our clubs/activities displayed around the school. This year we had 23 student groups request tables as they were eager to discuss their hard work and upcoming events.
October 9th, 2024 - Open House Principal Remarks
As we make our way through the first term we encourage you to reach out to your student's school counselor if you need additional assistance. Many of you noticed the "refresh" of the counseling office with the new layout providing spaces for students to work on post-secondary planning and mental health supports. We are also offering new career services this year and will be sending out more information soon about our counseling student workshops and career services.

KP Cares Food Pantry
KP Cares has created an in school Food Pantry, keeping an array of nutritious snacks accessible for King Philip students throughout the school day. Students being hungry during the day is an educational barrier, as concentration and problem-solving skills are more difficult to achieve when hungry. To prevent King Philip students experiencing food insecurities from encountering this barrier, students have a resource to get snacks so they can remain focused and continue to effectively learn throughout the day. To keep the Food Pantry filled for King Philip students, KP Cares hosted a Food Drive at Open House. We received some food but are still in need of other items. If you are able to help, could you please send in any of the following items with your child to the high school. They can drop off with Mrs. Rowe in the library. All items should be individual snack sized.
Chex mix, Baked chips (Lays, Doritos, etc.), Smart Food, Rice Krispie bars, Goldfish crackers, Welch's Fruit Snacks, Cheez its, MadeGood Bars, Dole Fruit Cups, Whole Grain Fruit Bars, Kind Bars, Veggie Straws, Graham Crackers snack bags.
Through these initiatives, KP Cares is dedicated to creating a nurturing and supportive environment for all students at King Philip. By fostering community connections and providing essential resources, we empower each student to thrive and succeed in their educational journey with KP.
In addition to the snack baskets we are also partnering with the YMCA to provide "Fuel for the Weekend." The weekend bags will include things like soup, cereal, ramen, mac 'n cheese and an assortment of snacks.
If you (as a KPHS Student) or your student (a KPHS Student) could benefit from either of these programs please reach out to your school counselor to sign up for assistance.

College Application Workshops
Throughout October the School Counselors will be hosting drop-in College Application Workshops every Tuesday and Thursday during lunch block in the School Counseling Suite. Stop by with specific questions or come chat with a counselor about Naviance, Common App, Letters of Recommendation, SAT scores, etc. We are here to help!
Level Changes
Academic level change requests occur during the first two weeks of a course or with administrative approval. It is important that students spend sufficient time in a course before an academic level change is requested so that they and the teacher have the opportunity to determine the appropriateness of the placement.
Any level change that occurs after the first two weeks of the beginning of the course will require an Academic Level Change Request Form. Academic Level Change Request Forms are available in the School Counseling Office and require the student to get the signature of the current teacher and a parent/guardian.
Moving up a level only occurs within the first term. Any exceptions require administrative approval.
All courses dropped after the add/drop period will result in the appearance of a Withdrawal “WP” or “WF” on the student’s transcript. No schedule changes will take place during the last three weeks of a term.
Getting your permit?
If you need residency documentation to obtain your Learner’s Permit or Driver’s License, the Massachusetts RMV requires the following items:
An Official Transcript
A Letter of Residency (which includes student’s DOB and current residential address)
- To have these items prepared, please complete a Transcript Request Form, check off the RVM box, and submit it to the Guidance Office secretary, Mrs. Ludwig or email it to ludwigm@kingphilip.org

Hosting an Exchange Student
Have you thought of hosting an exchange student? Adrian has come to KP for the year and is looking for a host family to share his experience with. He is from Bolivia, actually the highest town in the country! At 17 years old he is the youngest of four siblings and loves his big family. Adrian earned the highest marks on the English test and speaks very well, has won an award for Table Tennis, plays soccer, loves pets (has a little dog at home), and wants to be a chemist after graduation. He likes to attend the theater and expressed interest in working in the drama club this year to learn the "behind the scenes" of theater. He also would like to join a gym to stay active and healthy. He is bringing some family recipes to cook and share and has no allergies or special diet needs.
His favorite American musicians are Green Day, the Beatles, and Nirvana. Adrian is very excited to be coming to Massachusetts. He has never traveled outside of Bolivia before.
Reach out to Eileen Cahoon if you are interested in learning more about the program and/or hosting Adrian.
