June 2024
Hello From Mrs. Beverly
It amazes me that we are already in June and summer vacation is just a few days away. It was such a pleasure watching your students grow and learn all year long! Your children are readers, creative thinkers, mathematicians, kind little humans, writers, scientists, good friends, and inquisitive learners. This summer, please play outside as much as you can. Read together as a family. Go visit the library, or listen to a virtual story (some are shared in a separate newsletter link). Visit the playground or park. Go for a walk. Play a few board games together. Practice those math facts. Ride bikes. Go swimming. Laugh a whole bunch.
I look forward to seeing our little learners during the 2024-2025 school year. If your student would like to send a letter, postcard or send a picture in the mail to Mrs. Beverly this summer, she will write back to your child. You can send mail to:

I hope to hear from many students this summer as pen pals!

Kindergarten News
Wow, our year has flown by, and oh how much they have grown! We want to thank all the families for their hard work during this school year. Reflect on the growth of your students and celebrate with them as they have come so far this year. We have a little bit more learning to do this year and lots of fun as well.
This trimester we learned about natural resources in science and our social studies topics focus on being a good citizen, American holidays, and American symbols. Our phonics lessons focused on exposure to long vowel sounds. In Math, we have finished our chapters about measurement and we are exploring data, graphing, and sorting. We used manipulatives with a lot of hands-on learning and real life applications in these areas. We will end the year by reviewing addition and subtraction to be ready for first grade. In writing, we worked on sentences that incorporate sight words and phonetically spelled words. We practiced editing our work to check for capital letters, appropriate spacing between our words and punctuation at the end of our sentences.
In preparation for first grade, continue to read and ask questions about your reading as well as pointing out the math and science that happens throughout daily life. Students have developed a great growth mindset and willingness to take on challenges. When your child seems to have a hard time with something, remind them of this quote by Shelia Tobias - “There is a difference between not knowing and not knowing YET.” We hope all of our families have a great summer!
First Grade Update
It’s hard to believe that the end of the school year has arrived. The First Grade students have accomplished so much in just one year. We would like to thank everyone who was involved in making this school year a success!
Over the final trimester of school, students have learned to decode words with r-controlled vowels and diphthongs. We continued to work on comprehension skills such as cause and effect, retelling a story, and theme. In math, students were taught double digit addition and subtraction without regrouping, measurement and data, as well as attributes of 2 and 3-dimensional shapes. In social studies, students learned about goods and services, consumer and producers, and held a first grade Marketplace. Students produced and sold their goods. How fun!
We are so very proud of all the students. Please continue to read and work on basic math facts during the summer months. Don’t forget to add in some writing.
Have a wonderful summer!

Second Grade Scoop
At this time of the year we look back at all that we have accomplished and forward to next year, when the children will begin the next level of learning. This year the second graders have grown and learned many new things. The growth we have seen in reading, writing, thinking and listening skills is remarkable. In math we have made incredible progress with our math program, Go Math! The children are ready to leave us and to begin the next step in their education. We will miss them all! Remember to read, keep a journal, and practice math facts this summer. This will ensure that the children will not forget all the wonderful skills they have acquired this year. We wish the parents and children of Grade 2 a HAPPY and HEALTHY SUMMER!
Love,
The Second Grade Teachers

News from the Nurse
It is hard to believe that another school year is coming to an end. I am grateful to serve the town of Auburn and all of our families who reside here.
As we close out this year, I just have a few reminders:
*If your child has medication at the school, it needs to be picked up by a person 18 or older before the last day of school. Medications that are not picked up will be disposed of. No medications can be sent home with our students.
* If your child will require medications next year I will need a new medication order from the provider along with the parent permission form
*Medications for next year can be dropped off the Monday or Tuesday prior to the students return.
*If your child has a physical be sure to send it into the school so we can ensure our records are up to date.
*If there have been any medical changes please update me
Art Article
What a year! I had a lot of fun exploring the seven elements of art with the students and their projects truly blew me away. Our art show was a bg success and it was super cool seeing all of the art displayed together.
In class we like to sing the “Scratch Garden” Elements of Art songs on Youtube, so be sure to check them out. I made up a bunch of rhymes for the students to learn the elements of art and they have done a fantastic job remembering them. Ask them to tell them to you! Here is a link to review:

We have also been going outside as much as the weather has permitted. I hope the students are inspired to go outside and draw from life and create art from things they find in nature this summer. We will be reading “Our Great Big Backyard” by Jenna Bush Hager and Laura Bush to finish off the school year and will be creating our very own postcards! It is a wonderful story about steering away from technology, being present, and exploring the beauty of things around you. Here is a link to a read aloud: Our Great Big Backyard https://youtu.be/MjLgr_dch8k
I have attached a pdf of some summer art making tips. If your student creates this summer, have them return the sheet to me the first week of school next year to earn something special. I will have the SWIS art teacher collect them for me as well for my upcoming third graders.
Have a happy and safe summer vacation!

Press Release from PE
Dear Parents/Guardians,
The school year has flown by! I This year we have learned and practiced locomotor, non manipulative, and manipulative skills in a variety of ways.. In trimester 3, we worked on striking with a variety of implements: body, bat, racket/paddles, and introduced lacrosse. I have watched confidence, patience, practice, perseverance, self-advocacy, and skill bloom and evolve over the past year. It was a joy being a part of your child’s growth and development.
As we head into summer, for many kids, it is a time for fun and relaxation. For other kids, this time can be a difficult one due to lack of structure. Focusing on a few things, you can take a vacation and turn it into a wonderful & healthy summer vacation! Attached you will find a Summer Wellness Bingo Card that you and your family can have fun trying to complete together!
I wish all the best to the second graders moving onto SWIS and look forward to seeing my K&1 friends next fall! I hope you have a safe, healthy, and happy summer!
In good health,
Miss. D

Technology Talk
Scan this QR code for more helpful Technology tips:
Our Tech students have had a busy and exciting year! All students in grades K-2 have been learning new Technology concepts through exploration, discovery, and creativity with our Project Lead the Way STEAM program. Students in all grade levels have been working on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) projects during Technology classes.
Kindergartners have been exploring how to be engineers by designing and building structures to help solve problems. First and Second grade students have been working on Coding and are able to Program their own stories and games using the Scratch Jr. program.
All grade levels have been learning correct finger placement and first steps to becoming proficient at keyboarding. First and Second graders were introduced to Google Docs which allowed them to practice typing on an ipad as well as a computer. They have learned how to start their own documents, change font sizes and color as well as edit their work.
Have a wonderful summer and remember these Technology tips:
Set Technology time limits that work for your household (before summer vacation begins).
Set clear expectations for using technology (which apps are ok and which need supervision to use).
Determine prerequisites for tech time (which chores/activities need to be finished before devices come out?)
Set blocks on things that you do not want your child on (YouTube can be fun but there is a kid version (You tube kids) that may be more appropriate for K-2 students).
Manage the apps that your children can access. Close out windows that you (an adult) may have used before letting your child use your device.
Monitor what your children are doing on their devices!
Sun, Summer and Song!
Hello, Bryn Mawr Families!
It has been a musically awesome year at Bryn Mawr! Students have learned so many new musical skills and have performed in their concerts, working very hard to show all of their progress!
It is with a bit of sadness that it is that time of year that we say goodbye to our Second Grade students. Although they will be musically missed at Bryn Mawr, they are sure to make a joyful sound at SWIS! All the best to all of our Second Graders as they move on! They are amazing! May they all enjoy this summer to its fullest!
By the way, summer doesn’t mean that the music needs to stop! There are a lot of wonderful musical opportunities and activities you can participate in and do as families!:
Online music games and activity videos on YouTube are great for rainy days! Look up “rhythm play along” videos, instrument identification games, and more! It will keep the music flowing in your home!
Opportunities for free concerts pop up all over Massachusetts in the summer months. Check out the free offerings in Worcester for a variety of musical genres and styles for everyone!
Sound Scavenger Hunts can also be a great way to spend some quality time outdoors as well as taking in the music of the natural world. You can find many ideas online to help you create a hunt list that is just right for your family!
Fun extended family and friend activities with a musical twist can be bar-b-que and party karaoke, a dance party with the cousins, or musical board games for all ages.
A jam session with homemade instruments or pots and pans can make for some lasting family memories - and recording opportunities - that will surely be fun for kids of all ages!
May your summer be filled with memories, fun, laughter, and music!

Notes from Mrs. Fenuccio
As our school year comes to a close, I would like to say what a joy it was reading to your children this year! My hope is that they enjoyed hearing the stories during Books & Beyond and that they sparked an interest in books. There is such a world to discover in those pages. They have also worked very hard building their reading muscles this year. Over the summer it’s important that they do some reading to maintain those skills. Remember that reading books to your child and having conversations is also very important for vocabulary and comprehension; they don’t need to do all the work.
Here are some tips to make reading fun over the break:
Read outdoors
Listen to audiobooks in the car (download the Libby app and connect your library card to borrow for free)
Make a summer scrapbook of your activities, do the writing together. Then your child can practice reading their summer story.
Visit the Auburn Library!! Check out their website for updates and details about any summer programs they might have. You can use your library card online to request books from other libraries and they will be delivered to Auburn.
Details about the summer reading assignment will be sent home on the last day of school.
