August 14, 2024 - NEWSLETTER
Lighthouse families,
Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year! We are getting ready for the first day of school on Tuesday, September 3, 2024. We are thrilled to welcome our students and staff to a new year of learning at school. I hope that you were able to relax and make special memories this summer. It is time to look forward to a wonderful new school year!
As always, we are looking for parent volunteers to support student learning and/or clubs. Some options might include Destination Imagination, Technovation, History Day, or Science Fair Club. We would also like to invite parents to share an interest or skill with interested students. Please reach out to me or Sheri Koehn if you are interested in volunteering.
As we begin a new year, here are a few things to know:
- Meet and Greet – August 28: Students and their families are invited to attend a Meet and Greet event at Lighthouse on Wednesday, August 28, 4-6 p.m. While at Lighthouse, you will have the opportunity to visit with the facilitators and other staff members in classrooms or our central space. Your student is invited to bring their school supplies. If you are not able to attend and would like to connect with your child’s facilitator, please contact our Lighthouse office at 763-600-5200.
- School hours and contacts:
- Main office - 7:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
- School hours - 8:10 a.m.-3 p.m.
- Main line - 763-600-5200
- Lighthouse attendance line - 763–600-5209
- High School attendance line - 763-600-5109
- Bus riders: If your child rides the bus, information about your bus stop, pick up and drop off times is expected to be mailed to homes the week of August 19. Please plan for your student to ride the bus on the first day of school to help us work out our routines and eliminate as much confusion as possible.
- Car riders: If your child will be dropped off and picked up by a parent, please be sure to park in the visitor spots near the parking lot. The lane directly in front of the school needs to remain open for buses. Students may be dropped off any time 7:45-8:10 a.m. and picked up at the end of the day at 3 p.m.
- Extended Learning Days (ELD): We will have four extended learning days this school year – November 8, February 28, April 8, and May 16. A printed copy of the calendar will be mailed home. We also keep important dates updated on the Lighthouse website calendar. Facilitators will lay out expectations for students for each Extended Learning Day and check in with students the next school day.
Visit the Back-to-School hub at SpringLakeParkSchools.org/BackToSchool for your back-to-school checklist or refer to the email sent August 7. This is where you will find school supply lists, the application for Educational Benefits (Please complete an application!), iPad preparation information, and more.
The Lighthouse school supply list is a small list of foundational supplies. Lighthouse students may also anticipate purchasing or bringing personalized supplies throughout the school year based on their co-created inquiry projects.
We look forward to welcoming students to school. If you have questions, comments, or concerns, they are always welcome. Please reach out. We look forward to partnering with you throughout the year as we all support our children’s learning.
With gratitude,
Lisa Cisewski
Coordinator of Gifted Services and Lighthouse School
