WMS Weekly Warrior
January 27, 2025

Good Afternoon Woodbury Middle School Community,
If you are one of those people who enjoy cold and icy weather, this weekend was for you. For those who look forward to warmer spring days, join me as we check that groundhog's credentials.
Last Thursday, over two hundred WMS students had a great night at the Valentine's dance. The event was a huge success, thanks to the hard work of Mr. Brutting, Ms. Chicano, and the Alliance leadership team. We also extend our thanks to the adult chaperones, Mr. Greene for the photo booth, and Mr. Pietrorazio for the incredible music. Click here for a quick video of some fun.
Winter sports have concluded, and all teams enjoyed success this winter. Thank you to the coaches and student-athletes who worked many hours this winter to achieve team and individual success. The Warrior Way is displayed in school and during our athletic extracurricular activities. Also, thank you to Mrs. Odell, who manages all of our athletic activities. We're now gearing up for the exciting spring sports season. Look for a letter from the WMS AD to register for spring sports through Family ID. Click here to see the 8th-grade winter sport athletes on their last home game.
The rescheduled Super Bowl pancake breakfast is Sunday February 23rd at 9:00. Hope to see everyone there to enjoy breakfast cooked and served by our students.
The next Parent in the Middle meeting will be held on February 25th at 6:30 PM in the WMS Library Media Center. Parents who cannot attend in person will receive a Google Meet link before the meeting. Additionally, please refer to the letter from our Parent in the Middle program linked here.

Please make sure to review the Woodbury Middle School Student Handbook with your student regarding cell phones. Some of you may be aware that the state has issued recommendations on cell phone usage in schools. I have included the proposed language from the state below. Click the picture to access the entire document from the state.
• Middle School − The policy for middle school students should also focus on removing cell phones from the school day or classroom. Developmentally, this age group is particularly vulnerable to the negative effects of excessive personal technology use and has a difficult time controlling their impulses. Concurrently, middle school students experience increased autonomy and independence during the school day, which can lead to increased opportunity for cell phone misuse. − Possession of cell phones in this age group is likely to be viewed as a rite of passage into adulthood, so communication and application of policies that restrict use must be developed in consideration of the specific challenges of middle school students.
